U. S. NAVY TRUCK BEFORE A CHINESE TEMPLE One of the strangest sights on far-famed Burma Road, main life-line between the Chinese government and the outside world, is the spectacle of big American trucks plying that highway with American flags and S. Navy conspicuously painted on both sides. They belong to the United States Navy and their presence there does not prove that the seamen have become landlubbers.

These trucks, manned by able seamen, play a very vital part in the Navy's business id the Far East. Up at CTnmgkrng. present capital of the Chiivge government, there is anchored in the Yangtse River, opposite the American Embassy, the U. 8. naval vessel Tutuila.

It is there for the protection of Americans in Chungking. The trucks are engaged in two important tasks. On the down trail to Rangoon. Burma, they carry from the crew of the Tutuila and legation pouches from the Embassy. On the tip-trip they carry the supplies the Tutuila needs, from to tanks of gasoline.

Trips are made once a month. The flags are painted on the trucks so the Japanese airmen may bare co excuse to mistake them for Chinese trucks and ft im wtuviec sue, t. at oca, u. a. nr.
