"ill Abner" Will Be Cobblestone Play Plan Event Thins Anr 14 1977 The HEWSpapers of Iowa County 5 Lil Alfier" has been selected as the next production by Cobblestone company, Marengo. The adult theater company which recently presented "40 Carats" and last summer did "George Washington Slept Here" will present the new play in the fall at a date to be announced later. Plans call for Saturday night and Sunday afternoon matinee presentations. A representative of the Old Creamery Thnater Garrison, was present at the meeting of the Cobblestone company last Wednesday. Reduced price tickets are available for groups attending Creamery productions.

Information may be obtained from Mrs. Larry Beyer or Mrs. Floyd (Dorothy) Deal, Marengo. There will be an open house at the Deal residence for the Garrison group Sunday, Apr. 17, from 2 to 5 p.m.

Marengo Library Will Show Films During National Library Week Two feature films will be shown at the Marengo public library next week in celebration of national library week. Librarian Charlotte Dugan said the films will be shown after school Tues- day, Apr. 19, and Thursday, Apr. 21, at 3:30 p.m. The films are 30 minutes long and are suitable for children or family entertainment she said.

Also, double-layered plastic bookbajjs, carrying Karsten Will Tour Europe With Wartburg Band Wilfred Karsten, Marengo, will be a member of the European-bound Wartburg college band. The 1977 tour will begin with a sacred concert at St. Luke's Evangelical Lutheran church, Greendale, Sunday, Apr. 17. Immediately following the worship service, the band will leave for Europe, arriving in London the same day.

CARNFORTH Old Hiway 6 West of Victor Closed Mondays Called an experiment in television, Iowa public television channels 12 and 32, will present a special program Tuesday, Apr, 19 at 8 p.m. on Trial: Iowa Marijuana Laws." The program will be taped at 2:30 p.m. before a live audience Sunday, Apr. 17 at the Pole Theatre, A.Y. and Theo Blank Performing Arts center, Simpson college, Indianola.

C.R. Symphony Will Present Twin Concerts The Cedar Rapids Symphony will present a pair of concerts Apr. 16 at 8:30 p.m. and Apr. 18 at 8 p.m.

The Saturday and Monday performances will be at the Paramount theater for the performing arts, Cedar Rapids. Special guest artist for the concerts is trumpeter Adolph "Bud" Herseth. Herseth has been the Chicago Symphony's principal trumpeter since 1948. His Chicago years have included numerous solo appearances with the Chicago orchestra and with the Chicago Symphony brass ensemble. For the Cedar Rapids concerts Herseth will perform the Hummel Trumpet Concerto.

The orchestra will be featured in Schubert's Symphony No. 8 Unfinished" and Stravinsky's Petrouchka ballet suite. Tickets are available by calling the symphony office Monday through Friday, or at the door the evening of the concert. Full time students and senior citizens may purchase tickets at half price. Both the pros and cons of the present laws concerning the possession of marijuana will be presented.

Judd Golden, Des Moines trial attorney and president of the Iowa chapter of the National organization for reform of marijuana laws, will argue for a change in the current laws. Vern Lawyer, Des Moines trial attorney, will present testimony in favor of the laws as they now stand. Both advocates will question nationally recognized witnesses to support their cases. The audience at Simpson and viewers will be asked to cast their vote on the outcome of the "trial." The verdict will be tabulated and reported on Mary Jane Odell's program at 6:30 p.m., Apr. 28.

Rita Berendes, a veteran actress with the company, will be present to explain the company's new discount ticket packets. The packets contain seven admissions to Old Creamery performances. While the company will perform seven plays over the season, the purchaser of a discount ticket packet can use the entire packet at one performance by bringing six other persons to see the show.
