The six-mile long "fuse plug levee" at the head of the big floodway is being surveyed for the demolition that would be required to open it. Bayou Teche is being damned near the gulf end of the floodway to prevent water backing into south central Louisiana towns in event the floodway is opened. More than 200,000 cubic feet of water a second is already being diverted around New Orleans via the Bonnet carrier spillway which has a total capacity of 250,000 second-feet.
