In this first segment, FBI director Clarence M. KeHey gives motorists tips on how to avoid possibly becoming victims.) An Ohio couple was kidnapped while stopped at a traffic light because their car was not locked. A Florida woman was assaulted as she returned from a shopping trip to her car which was parked in a dimly lit back street.

These, as well as many more kidnappings, robberies, rapes and other crimes, befall victims as they leave or enter their cars or are simply traveling from one place to another in their cars. Some simple crime resistance rules should be followed which could very well keep you from becoming a victim while using your car: (1) Keep your car doors locked while traveling in your car. (2) Lock your car doors while it is parked. This helps to keep intruders out of it. Look into your car before entering it (3) Do not pick up hitchhikers.

It should not seem necessary to caution on this point 'but everyday some kind motorists ignore this rule and become the victim of a violent crime perpetrated by a hitchhiker. (4) In the event you observe an individual in need of assistance on the highway, look for the police or a telephone or business establishment from which you could obtain assistance for the stranded party rather than stopping in an isolated to assist them. (5), Consider locking gas caps and hood locks, as well as auto theft alarm systems, as additional safe- guards. V- (6) Whenever possible, park in well-lighted areas 1 and avoid parking in remote or secluded streets. Install adequate lighting on' home carports and '-garages.

(7) When parking your car in public lot, leave only your ignition key. Do not leave your house key which could easily be copied.
