A win over the Dons will assure them of at least a tie for the conference honor that has eluded Mt. SAC teams in eight seasons of football.

With two games left on the schedule, the Mounties have a season record of eight wins and one loss and are contenders for a postseason JC bowl game. Bowl scouts undoubtedly will be watching the Santa Ana contest and the Chaffey Thanksgiving Day game to see if the Mounties can take the Eastern Conference crown undefeated. Ranked nationally for five weeks among the top ten JC elevens, SAC is still in the running for the Little Rose Bowl at Pasadena in December along with Compton, El Camino, Bakersfield and Antelope Valley. Other Bowl games in California include the Olive Bowl at Lindsay, the Potato Bowl at Bakersfield and the Orange Show Bowl at San Bernardino. ') The Santa Ana game is not being taken lightly by Mounjue Coach- John Arrambide assistants as the Dons have yet to click with the potential they are capable of displaying.

Eleven lettermen from last year's squad man ten of the eleven spots and are led by co-captains Chuck Lyons at end and John Linquist at center. Len Zelinka, half-back, is the leading Don ground-gainer who is closely paced by Roy Stephen, also a halfback. Lettermen Eli Peralta also adds weight and experience to the fullback post John McFaddin is a rangy quarterback who handles the ball well and is a fair passer. HOLD EDGE IN RECORDS Santa Ana is leading the Mounties with five victories to three in the eight-year rivalry between the two schools, but the Mounties have won the last two games and will be out to make it three straight. in the school gymnasluin, Head Coach Pete Provost, 'announced today. All former players are urged to turn out for the game to give this year's squad a real workout. Jerseys will be furnished and those taking part are requested to call- the coach. The varsity has been practicing for the past three weeks and Coach Provost reports a team of 2G men centered about a nucleus of three returning leltermen, Buddy Munoz, John Henderson and Jim Doherty. He says that several newcomers also are showing promise including Gordon Taylor, all CBI at Pomona high; Larry Wai ters, two year varsity letterman at Covina high; and Charles Nichols, most valuable player last yeni at Covina high.

Other good prospects are Jarnes Avant, who received the outstanding basketball award at Hart high school at Newhall; Manuel Quezada, Chino high's most valuable player; and Claremont high's Gilbert Oliver, who has just returned from serving with the Navy where he played with the Sixth Naval District championship squad in 1953. Assisting Provost by coaching the Junior Varsity team will be James L. Hafner, former psychology instructor and assistant basketball coach at Oklahoma A and M. A newcomer at MS- AC this year, Hafner will work with the squad which will play preliminary games before most of the varsity contests. This marks Provost's second year as head mentor at MSAC.

His 1953-54 season found the Mounties iji third place at the close of the Eastern Conference race with eight wins and four losses. Friday evening all of the football minded fans in the area can see one of the best games on tap in the CIF this year. I am referring to the Covina vs.

Baldwin Park game for the title of the San Gabriel Valley League. These two teams are rated a dead heat in the pre-game picking, with both boasting an unbeaten record. The Colts, though, have one tie to their record as they could not break a 7-7 deadlock with the South Pasadena Tigers. This game will decide the winner of the SGVL and also the representative to the CIF playoffs. The Colts have scored the most points in the league, chalking up 110 digits, averaging better than 15 points per till, while their opponents have averaged a mere 6 points per tilt.

The Colts turned a green squad into a winning club this season to battle their way right on into the finals for the league title. But give credit where credit is due they say so we will. I think most of the credit should be given to the coaching staff. These men, who are Buzz Bemoll, Gerry McClellan, Jim Munson and John Haven, have aided the team greatly as they donate their time to the team and help the boys iron out the kinks. Last Wednesday the BP thin- clads were downed by Bcllflow- er by thr varsity, 15-48 by the junior varsity, and by the junior Junior varsity. In Coach Schnell's opinion Bol If lower will probably win the Southern Caifornla championship.
