There were 1,970 votes cast for the issue and 1,001 against it. This issue will run 23 years with taxpayers paying 2.8 mills per year. The furids will build two new elementary schools and provide fireproof additions to the First and Second Ward elementary buildings. A.ny 'doubts that Shawriee centralized school district would not have sufficient funds for its proposed building program were erased quickly Wednesday. Voters in the district approved a $290,000 bond issue proposal by the overwhelming majority of 572 to 99, according to; the count at the Allen county Board of Elections.

The proposal received a favorable 85 per cent vote, 25 per cent more than needed for passage. Sale of'the bonds will raise the school district's building fund up to including funds from an extra; three-mill tax levy voted in 1947 for a five-year period. The levy is expected to raise more than $235,000. The money will be used for a 15 classroom and multipurpose room addition to the Shawnee elementary school. Original plans at time of submission of the levy three years ago were for a smaller addition.
