Student Nurses Receive Caps 20 Advance in St. Joseph's Hospital Course Twenty young women advanced to the second stage of their study in St. Joseph's Hospital School of Nursing, at "capping" exercises, Sunday evening, in the hospital chapel. The capping ceremony was attended by an audience that overflowed into the hall leading to the chapel.

The graduate and student nurses marched into the chapel as Max Hiendlmayr, organist, played the processional. The student choir sang Arcodelt's "Ave Maria," then the students gave the school pledge, after which caps and capes were bestowed upon the students by Miss Wlllene Breden, class sponsor, and Miss Charlotte Henry, president of the staff nurse organization. Each girl walked forward, for her cap and cape, as her name was called by Father John Bretz, chaplain of the school who acted as master of ceremonies. Each girl carried a small china lamp, emblematic of the Nightingale tradition, in which was a candle that was lighted as she received her cap and cape. Following the ceremony, a sermon was preached by the Rev.

G. H. Guyot of Kenrick Seminary, St. Louis, In which he stressed the importance of "little things In life and nursing;" and among the little things he listed were attention to the patient, a cheerful disposition, acts of actuated by a spirit of compassion, such as that shown the Samaritan in the New Testament parable. The ceremony was followed by Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament with Father Guyot as celebrant.

Preceding the capping ceremony, a tea and program were held In the nurses' home, and after'the religious ceremony a reception was held. Last week, the girls attended a retreat at the convent of Our Lady of the Cenacle in St. Louis. Church Events Evening Guild of the Evangelical Church will meet Tuesday at 7:45 o'clock at the church.
