He was 75. Kashino was born in Honolulu but spent most of his life after World War II in Seattle as a car dealer.

During World War II, Kashino served in Company I and won the Silver Star, Bronze Star and the Purple Heart with Silver Oak Leaf. He also earned a reputation as a tough soldier. ARNOLD GUSTAV BROCKSEN, 81, of California and Honaunau, Hawaii, died June 13, 1997. Born in Westside, lowa. Retired accountant. MARY TABARAS BROWN, 77, of Kahu- gun," said Joe Shimamura, a fellow 442nd veteran. Kashino was injured six times during fighting in Italy and France because he always returned to the battle front. "Shiro was one of those rare birds who was hit six times and kept coming back," said Ron Oba, another 442nd veteran. Shimamura, who served in Company, said Kashino always took the point when leading I Company into battle. In most companies, soldiers took turns at the point, he said.

He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was preceded in death by his brother, Justin Dean. Survived by parents, Michael and Barbara Ann Byrd; grandparents, Charlie and Betty Hargar. A Mainland service and burial will be held Friday. Kincannon-Lee Funeral Home.
