MARTINVILLE, Nov. 17. Wise old farmers frtim miles around came here yesterday to take a look at a spindly, knock-kneed horse colt, then went away shaking heads. The one-day-old black colt looks normal enough, except for the peculiar shape of his head. His Claim to fame lies in the fact that his mama is Lou, a 12-year-old mule.

Veterinarian George Broussard of New Iberia went Scurrying to his record books after taking a look at Lou's offspring and came up with the information that the mare is the first of her breed to become the mother of a horse in Louisiana. He said he knew of only three other such cases in history. Lou is owned by Acie Miller, St. Martinville mule trader, who acquired her in September. Last Wednesday, she pulled a cane wagon all day.

Then, Thursday morning, she was found nuzzling her colt. The federation of tax administrators, which issued the report, said initial legislative action had been taken in the six states considering bonus programs and the next phase will be approval or rejection- by the voters next year. Game Tonight There will be a basketball game tonight beginning at 7:30 o'clock in the Chillicothe Business College gymuasium, between Veteran's Foreign War's team and Knights of Columbus team of the college. We can safely say that the Chillicothe Business College football field, where both college and high school games are played here, is one of the best, if not the best field in the state.

We have heard many compliments regarding the field, particularly from out-of-town coaches. players and football fans. There's no doubt but, what C. B. C.

officials did an excellent job when the field was originally planned, and they should be commended highly. The gridiron drains well and has a fine stand of grass on it. Trenton players firmly expected to meet the Chillicothe Hornets on a field of mud in their Armistice Day tilt Tuesday according to a report in the Trenton Republican- Times and also from comments heard from Trenton rooters who accompanied the team here. Raiii such as that which fell Sunday and Monday will make the C.B.C. field slippery, naturally, but there's no such thing as playing on a muddy field when the game's here in Chillicothe.

Charles Moser, former Chillicothe High school and M. U. football star, now head coach at McAllen, Texas, High School, is well satisfied with the success of his team in stiff Texas competition, according to word received here recently. Moser's high school gridsters had won four games while losing two, a good record considering the fact that Moser said before the season opened: "I'll be well pleased if the boys break even." Typical of the interest in Texas high school football was the crowd of more than 10,000 who witnessed Mbser's 1 McAllen team and battle in a recent game. Harlingen won, 27-20, for one of McAllen's two defeats.

The other was a one-point loss to Kingsville. 20-19. In the Harlingen tilt, McAllen trailed 0-20 at half'time, then made a rousing comeback to knot the count at 20-alI with three minutes remaining. Harlingen's winning touchdown came on a pay-off pass. Moser, now in his second year of coaching at McAllen, has good prospects for his 1948 team with all but nine of a squad of 68 returning.

His team has a record of five victories and one defeat this season. Moser, familiarly known "Dutch'' while roaming the gridiron and basketball court as a C.H.S. Hornet, was a four-year letter winner at C.H.S. in football. He was also a basketball and track star.

He was chosen as an all-Big Six center while cavorting fdr Don Faurot's Missouri Tigers and was a member of the championship team that met Georgia Tech in the Orange Bowl. Following graduation from M. U. he coached at Lexington, high school, then served as a navigation instructor in the Army Air Forces for several years. His position at McAllen came shortly after his release from active duty in the Army.

Well, -the football season, as far as Chillicothe school is concerned, is over and now comes time for basketball. Coacn Elgie Posey started workouts for the cage squad today. The first game of the year is to be played here Dec. 12 with CarroIIton. The junior high school team will begin its training bright and early Tuesday morning at 7:30 o'clock and Witt play in the junior high school tournament Dec.

Basketball is the subject of conversation up Bethany way also these days with Bethany planning for a big invitational tournament to be held Feb.

5, 6, and 7. Nine teams have already accepted invitations to play, including Grant City, Coffey, Spickard, Cainsville, Ridgeway, Hatfield, Princeton, New Hampton and Gallatin. Efforts are being made to get teams from Urhonville, Milan, Trenton, Princeton, Grant City, Stanberry, Union Star and Gallatin, to play. Opening Indoor Season The indoor basketball season for Garrison school will be opened Tuesday night at 8 o'clock with a game between Garrison team and' Utica high school, Alonzo Redmon announced today. The game will be held at Central School gymnasium..
