Park Place WCTU Renames Club PAGE 15 Van Dreelen Acclaimed Current Season Theatre Idol John Van Dreelen John Van Dreelen and Jeannie Carson will portray Captain von Trapp and his lovely Maria Rainer in the Rodgers and Hammerstein musical "The Sound sic" coming to the Paramount, Theatre, Anderson, Thursday, Nov. 29.

The story, by Lindsey and Crouse, tells of the adventures of the famous Trapp Family Singers. John Van Dreelen's tour of American cities this fall and winter will establish the young European actor as a 'matinee idol' in the rich tradition of the theatre in days gone by. John has that air of authority inherited from his father, the celebrated Dutch actor Louis Van Dreelen Gimberg, who was known as the Lionel Barrymore of the Continental stage. His mother was the Countess de Labouchere of Paris. any early ambitions Although his father discouraged, acting career, John was by Johann de Meester, celebrated Dutch director, to play a leading role in "The Yellow Nightingale" at, the Royal Theatre in The Hague.

His father was present at the opening night and promptly changed his mind about the acting career and gave him considerable help and professional guidance during the early stages of his career. A succession of roles soon followed and he appeared throughout Europe in "Romeo and Can't It With You," "'The Hasty Heart," "'Arsenic and Old "Hamlet" and many other plays until his career was interrupted by World War I when the Germans invad-len ed Holland. He was interned at the Papanb ur concentration camp and later escaped by impersonating a German officer. and Jeannie Carson After the war, van Dreelen made his debut on the London stage at the invitation of Sir LauMu-rence Olivier, who asked him to play opposite Dame Edith Evans in "Daphne Laureola."
