Irwin won by 12 strokes and became the first golfer since Sam Snead in 1972 and 1973 to win this major in consecutive years. "That eagle at No. 3 probably took away what glimmer of hope there was left for the other players," Irwin said.

"I would have hated to have been trying to catch me today." Irwin holed a 20-foot sand shot from in front of the green for his eagle and finished with 5-under-par 68 for a 274 total on the Champion course at the PGA National Golf Club. In earning his third title of the season on the senior tour, Irwin received $216,000 from the $1.2 million purse. Jack Nicklaus and Dale Douglass shared the runner-up spot at 286 in the 58th edition of the event. Price is right: Nick Price shot a final-round 5-under 66 yesterday for a wire-to-wire victory in the MCI Classic at Hilton Head Island, S.C. Price started the round up two shots, watched playing partner Brad Faxon cut it to one, then ripped off radar-like irons and putts to finish at 15-under 269 and win the $270,000 top prize.

Faxon was tied for second with Jesper Parnevik at 9-un-der. Webb rallies: Karrie Webb rattled off six consecutive birdies on the back nine yesterday on the way to her second straight 6-under-par 66 and a three-shot victory in the $500,000 Susan G. Komen International at Murrells Inlet, S.C. Webb had birdies at Nos. 11 through 16 of the Wachesaw East Golf Club to overtake third-round co-leaders Cathy Johnston-Forbes and Nanci Bowen.

Webb's total of 12-under 276 gave the 22-year-old Australian her fifth career victory. She won $75,000. Deborah BookerThe Honolulu Advertiser Mid-Pac champ Greg Meyer lines up his putt on the 18th green. Meyer in triumphant return to Mid-Pacific A and hard-charging Keith Koll-meyer, who had seven birdies and three bogeys in his round of 68. "The first one is always the best," Meyer said, "but I actually played better this time.

I stayed patient yet I was kind of nervous all day." After taking his only bogey of the day on the par-13 14th, Meyer recovered with birdies on the next two holes. He stuck a 141-yard 7-iron at the par-4 15th to eight feet, then drained the putt to keep a safe lead on Kollmeyer, who was running his second string of birdies up ahead on holes 14, 15 and 16. On the par-5 16th, Meyer found his third bunker of the day. But he blasted out to three feet and sank the putt to secure the victory and the $5,000 first-place prize money. Suzuki faltered with a final-round 78 and finished alone in fourth at 285.

Open Daily 2pm to 2am Sheridan St. 943-9333 By Tom Haynes Special to The Advertiser After eight years, Greg Meyer finally returned to "defend" his 1989 Mid-Pacific Open title. The last time Meyer competed in the event he scorched the Mid-Pacific Country Club layout with a record-breaking 64 en route to a record-tying 271 total and his first, and only, Mid-Pacific Open championship. Until yesterday, that is.

With no schedule-conflicts in the Japan PGA Tour, where he usually plays, Meyer came to Lanikai to play. And play he did. He led eight-time champion Lance Suzuki by one stroke after three rounds, but was never really threatened. Under sunny skies and in near-idyllic conditions, Meyer made enough timely birdies to shoot a final-round 69 for a 13-under 275. That was five strokes better than second-round leader Daryl Inaba (71) VAhD video 3SO WARD AVE arts WHLVt MUSgPfMfc Najrwif.
