Bucks rip Iowa, await UM invasion IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) For the past dozen years, the Big Ten football title has been decided between Michigan and Ohio State. That tradition will continue for at least another year, thanks to Ohio State's 41-7 victory over Iowa here Saturday, and Michigan's 26-0 blanking of Purdue. Buckeye quarterback Art Schlichter threw for 195 yards, including two touchdown passes to lead No. 7 Ohio State. The Buckeye win, combined with Michigan's 26-0 route of Purdue, means next week's OSU-Michigan clash will once again decide the conference championship end the Big Ten's Rose Bowl entry.

Ohio State ran its record to 9-1 overall and 7-0 in the league, while Iowa fell to 3-7 and 3-4. Schlichter completed 13 of 18 passes with just one interception. His scoring passes a 39-yarder to split end Gary Williams and a 23-yarder to tail back Calvin Murray both came in the first quarter. The Buckeyes also capitalized on numerous Iowa turnovers, converting four of them into touchdowns. They also displayed a powerful ground game, with Murray running for 183 of Ohio State's 293 rushing yards.

The Buckeye's second leading rusher was Tim Spencer, whose 87 yards included touchdown runs of one and two yards. A one-yard run by tailback Kelvin Lindsey and two field goals by Vlade Janakievski completed the Ohio State scoring. Iowa got on the Scoreboard early in the second half when quarterback Pete Gales connected with split end Keith Chappclle for an 18-yard score. Iowa could manage just 49 yards rushing and 98 yards passing for the Hawkeye's worst offensive perfor-. mance of the year.

Mich. St. 30 Minnesota 12 MINNEAPOLIS (AP) John Leister's three scoring passes and three field goals by Morten Anderson added up to a 30-12 Big Ten verdict for Michigan State over Minnesota Saturday and killed the Go- ers' slim hopes for a post-season wl bid. "It was a totally miserable performance for us," said Minnesota Coach Joe Salem, whose team slipped to 5-5 after winning three straight games. "If we didn't fumble or have a pass intercepted, we dropped a pass.

It's just plain and simple; we got our rear ends kicked." The victory was the second straight for the Spartans after five consecutive losses. Michigan State, 3-7, wasn't able to move on the ground, but Leister made up for that by completing 14 of 28 passes for 209 yards. "When we needed the big play we got it," said the sophomore quarterback. "We beat Northwestern last week and we'll beat Iowa next week. We're going to carry a three- game winning streak into next year.

We're tired of losing." Leister's 32-yard scoring pass to Ted Jones gave Michigan State a 7-3 lead late in the first quarter and his 36-yard TD pass to Tony Gilbert midway through the second quarter made it 14-6. Minnesota's Garry White, who gained 201 yards rushing, cut the margin to 14-12 with a one-yard plunge late in the first half. But then Anderson, a left-footed kicker from Denmark, took over, kicking field goals of 24, 41 and 30 yards in the second half. Wisconsin 39 N'western 19 EVANSTON, 111. (AP) "A win is a win is a win," concluded Coach Dave McClain Saturday after his Wisconsin had hammered winless Northwestern 39-19 in a Big Ten football game.

Despite nagging mistakes, quarterback Jess Cole passed for one touchdown and ran for another in a relief role, while tailback Troy King rushed for 81 yards and scored a touchdown in what turned out to be an easy Wisconsin triumph. "They've had their problems, and I thought that might bring them together," said McClain. Northwestern's problems involving complaints from some black players of "unequal treatment" several weeks ago emerged again this past week. But they did not help fire the team to a victory in the final game of the most disasterous football season in the school's history. Northwestern finished with an 0-11 record and now has lost 20 straight, the longest current losing streak among major universities.

Wisconsin boosted its record to 3-7 and 2-5 in the Big Ten with one game against Minnesota to go. The Badgers spotted Northwestern an early touchdown but came back to take the lead on field goals of 41 and 28 yards by Mark Doran sandwiched by a safety. Wisconsin wrapped the game up when Cole hit Craig Fredrick with a two-yard touchdown pass in the second quarter and ran for another score midway through the third period.
