She said undecided The kids said they liked hearing her talk about how she wants to be a normal person shopping at Wal Mart in pajamas and about her hometown of Plymouth where she said she tried for Miss Blueberry estival once and lost thought it was really in teresting to hear from some one been through a seventh grader Kayla Ostronsaid came from a small town but achieved her By MERANDA WATLING mwatlingjournalandcouriercom Although a few years from reality Lafayette School Corp is already lay ing the foundation for an other addition to its high school alternative education offerings The board of trustees on Monday heard about the work John Layton assistant superintendent and other administrators have been doing this year traveling the state to research alternative programs offered by other districts Layton said some trends have stood out as things LSC will look at as it crafts a cur riculum and program that could be operational as soon as the 2010 11 school year of the things we feel very strongly about is it needs to be a school of Layton said kids must want to go to the Layton said alterna tive schedules to allow for jobs or family obligations are among the things LSC is considering LSC also is considering project driven curriculum which would be based on completing proj ects not passing tests The district has already posted some positions to seek interested alternative education teachers who would like to help form the curriculum The new program which will go in at the current Oakland Elementary School building will serve as part of the education continuum the district would like to of fer its high school students Jefferson High graduation rate is about 70 percent The district hopes it can increase the number of students earning diplo mas by offering them more options or more time to get there Already the district offers an alternative school that is largely computer' based and is located at the former Washington Elementary This fall a charter school sponsored by the district will open to serve about 30 at risk students with a fo cus on personal instruction and service learning has to be something Superintendent Ed Eiler told the board be what doing now because what doing now working for this group of STA REPORTS Purdue police say a man was hit by a car near the cor ner of Second and University streets Monday afternoon The name or condition of the victim had not been released as of Monday night OfficerKelly Colosino said the man was taken to St Elizabeth Medical Center for evaluation His injuries did not appear to be life threaten ing Stacee Hampson a Purdue junior was on the fifth floor of the parking garage at the cor ner when she saw the crash around 4:30 pm rolled up on the car on his left she said think he hit his head when he came Cl I wwwlovetreevetcom Save $5 off a firil package with this ad!
