The necessary fund this important work were provided by an act of the Legislature some time ago, to that Gov. Tlldeo's extraordinary streak of economy will not prevent the completion of the Improvement. Before the elose of the season the work will be well advanced. Commissioner Jackson called attention to the ACCUMULATIONS 6 REFUSE MATTER 1st the canal between' slip W. 9 and Maryland i Street, and announced hit Intention to ash the Attorney-General to institute measures to prevent the discharge of -till offensive matter Into the.

After i having teen all that was desired, the tug passed through the lock into the river, and the party returned through the river, lake and harbor, landing at the foeit, of Main Street at about 121 O'clock. On the return trip the attention of the Commission was called to the condition of the BIBD-ISLABTD PIER-EXTENSION. This work was considerably damaged by the tea last winter and should be; repaired and completed.

But a penny- wisA-and-found-v foolish streak of economy has struck the people at Albany, and no fundi havd been traction of the- new- extension and the loss of many thousands of dollar. This wall waa designed to protect the canal against the encroachments of Lake Etrie and must be constructed sooner or later or the canal at the foot of Pennsylvania Street will be filled with sand. The opinion of most of those present waa that tbe wisest course for the State to pursue was to complete the work at the earllestday possible, j- jj -THIS A FTZBJf OOlt a meeting of the Commission was to be held at the office of Mr. Thad. Now Is the time when many people are seeking relaxation from the cares business and are looking about for some locality where a portion at least of the heated term can be passed, with some degree of comfort and pleasure. To such we would recommend the "Manbansett House," at Shelter Island Park, Long Island. The Manhan- sett" is located on Shelter Island, about one mile from, and directly opposite, Greenport, I. To meet this ontlay it was at first thought advisable to have a Strawberry Festival, but after due deliberation it has been decided to hold old-fashioned Donation Party at the Asylum, and the ladle having it in charge respectfully solicit from all the citizens of Buffalo and adjoining towns, donations of groceries, provisions, dry-goods, clothing, shoes, bedding, furniture. Then there were two hundred and eighty-seven item in the Supply bill to be examined. Besides this there have been innumerable calls, interviewers, bearings, and letters, which if all bad been attended to, would bave occupied more of my time than has been taken up in signing and vetoing tbe bills. The fact his being doubly a graduate i an earnest of hi ca liability; the facts that he-practices independently, be refuses to be boand by any ancient set of rules, rather preferring: to be guided by know ledge and common sense, are good evidence that is a man of mind and in advance of those who, though they have the discrimination, lack 'the courage to cast aside prejudices and erroneous practices.
