(AP) Kevin McLee scored two touchdowns following fumble recoveries and Georgia withstood a late Mississippi rally to trim the Rebels 14-13 Saturday in a Southeastern Conference football game played a drizzling ram. The Rebels scored twice in the final quarter on passes by reserve quarterback Tim Ellis, but failed on a two point conversion attempt that could have given them the lead. McLee's first touchdown came on an eight-yard run after only 3:30 had elapsed in the game, following a fumble recovery at the Rebel 45 by Louis Freedman, who dealt misery to Ole Miss throughout the game.

The other Bulldog score came midway through the third quarter when McLee bolted one yard after Ronnie Swoopes had recovered a tumble on the Ole Miss 37. However, the Rebels, v.he had not been inside the Georgia 35 previously, staged five scoring chances in the final quarter. The first came after Ed Householder recovered a fumble on the Bulldog 37, setting up a 44-yard touchdown pass from Ellis to James Storey with 9:57 remaining. A fumble recovery on the following kickoff gave Ole Miss possession at the Bulldog 16, but they failed to move and Hoppy Langley missed a 41-yard field goal try. Two other times, Ole Miss was in Georgia territory only to have passes intercepted but got a major break with 2:34 left when Georgia punter Mike Garrett fumbled the snap and Ole Miss took over on the 8.

The drive had started at the 37 but Bobby Gamer was nailed for a seven-yard loss by Bill Krug on the first play and limped off the field with an ailing knee. Ellis then made his first appearance and delivered the touchdown strike to Storey on the first play. After Langley missed the field goal. Ole M.ss moved to the Georgia on a 32 yard run by Williams, but Jeff Lewis intercepted a pass tipped by Freedman. who also had another fumble recovery deep Ole Miss territory that Georgia failed to capitalize on when Re Robinson misied a 2yard field goal attempt.

Johnny Hendrrson also intercepted an Ellis pass at the Georgia 10 with less than four minutes remaining, moments before Miller's fumble allowed Ole Miss to score its second touchdown. (AP) Running back Charles Alexander scored three touchdowns, two in the fourth quarter, to power Louisiana State's 28-15 comeback victory Saturday over Vanderbilt in Southeastern Conference football. The victory was lSth-ranked LSU's third straight, giving it a 31 record this season and a 2-0 mark in the conference. Vanderbilt is 1-4 and 04.

LSU trailed 15-7 after three quarters but tied the gam when split end Mike Quintela scored on a three-yard run around right end. Quarterback Steve Ensminger hit Alexander on the two-point conversion pass to tie 15-15. Vanderbilt's Roy Williams fumbled LSU's kickoff and Gary Blacketter recovered for LSU at Vanderbilt's 11-yard line. Alexander earned twice, scoring from six yards out on the second play. Mike Conway's kick gave the Tigers a 22-15 margin.

Earlier, it appeared Vanderbilt had a chance for an upset. Frank Mordica's third-quarter touchdown on a five-yard run gave the Commodores a 15-0 lead after Mike Wright's first-quarter score and a second-quarter saftey. Alexander, a junior, took a pitchout and rambled 23 yards along the right sideline as LSU closed to 15-7 with 3:41 left in the third period. (AP)-Fullback Rodney Lee pounded out 137 yards, including a 72-yard touchdown, to lead Georgia Tech to 24-8 college football victory Saturday over' fumble and interception-plagued Tennessee. Tech converted two Tennessee fumbles and an interception into touchdowns in a pouring rain as the Yellow Jackets attempted no passes the entire non-conference game.

Freshman safety Lawrence Lowe set the tone of the contest with a 49-yard touchdown on a pass interception return in the second quarter. Lowe picked off a bomb from Tennessee quarterback Ryan to Nate Sumpter and danced untouched into the end zone. Six minutes later, Johnny Smith booted a 37-yard field goal to give Tech a 104) halftime lead. Lee scored his touchdown in the third period one play after Tennessee's No. 2 quarterback, Jimmy Streater, fumbled and Tech's Lucius Sanford pounced on the ball.

Tennessee's only score was early in the fourth period when Streater scrambled 38 yards into the end zone and then dived across the goal again for a two-point conversion. With the Vols backed against their own goalline, Tech noseguard Mike Cutting fell on a Kelsey Finch fumble at the 3 and three plays later quarterback Gary Lanier plunged over from the 1-foot mark for the game's final score. Kentucky 23 Mississippi State 7 LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) Kentucky's Derrick Ramsey hit tight end Dave Trosper for one touchdown and plunged three yards for a second score Saturday night as 16ih-ranked Kentucky opened its Southeastern Conference football season with a 23-7 win over Mississippi State. The victory pushed Kentucky's record to 4-1, the Wildcats' best start since Coach Paul "Bear" Bryant's 1950 squad won its first 10 games.

The loss dropped Mississippi State to 3-2 overall and 0-2 in the SLC. Ramsey kept the Bulldogs off balance with first down passes in the opening two periods and Wildcat running backs began finding holes in the middle of the defensive line in the second half. Joe Bryant's 27-yard field goal opened the scoring early in the second period. His kick was set up by Ramsey's 47-yard pass to Trosper. The Cats were forced to go for the field goal when, on third and-two from the Bulldog nine-yard line, Randy Brooks lost one yard on a pitchout.

Ramsey's six-yard pass to Trosper midway through the second quarter was set up by a 12-yard pass to Fred Williams and a personal foul penalty that moved the ball to the Mississippi State six. Ramsey found Trosper alone in the end zone two plays later. Following a Jim Nabers punt with less than two minutes left in the first half, Ramsey fired 43 yards to Greg Nord to move the Wildcats to the Bulldog 12. A nine-yard pass to Williams put the ball at the three, from where Ramsey scored on a counter option with six seconds left in the half, giving the Cats a 17-0 halftime edge. 433-8278 433-8279 2 BLOCKS SOUTH OF PACE A PALAFOX INTERSECTION AP Loterphole CAUGHT IN THE CRUNCH Georgia Tech halfback Lvddie Lee Ivery (40) picks up tough first down yardage during the Yellow Jacket victory over Tennessee, 24-8, in Knoxville Saturday.

Kansas 7 MIAMI (AP) Ottis Anderson threw halfback option scoring passes of 40 and 27 yards to freshman flanker Jeff Wright Saturday night as the University of Miami defeated Kansas 14-7 in a college football game. Anderson, normally known for his running prowess, surprised the Kansas secondary on near-identical plays in the first and third quarters by faking a run, then flipping the ball to a wide open Wright. The two scoring receptions were Wright's first two pass catches as a collegiate ball player.

Anderson also earned the ball 20 times and gained 79 yards. Miami took an early lead when Anderson stunned Kansas with a 40-yard halfback pass to Wright, who was yards behind the Kansas defense. He scored easily and Chris Dennis hit the first of his two extra points for the 70. Miami won its third straight and is now 3-2 while Kansas is 1-4. Mark Vicendese replaced starting freshman quarterback Jeff Hines in the second period and directed a 60-yard Kansas scoring drive, ending with a 28-yard touchdown pass to flanker Rodney Olson.

Mike Hu-bach kicked the extra point. Miami resorted to the halfback pass again in the third quarter using the same cast of characters. Baker pitched out to Anderson, who began to sweep righp, then pulled up and tossed a 27-yard scoring pass to Wright. Dennis' kick gave Miami a 14-7 lead. Being the No.

The Rattlers had to mount a last-minute goal line defense to hang on to the victory after pint-sized Alabama State quarterback Felton Mobley unleashed a potent passing attack which gained one score and drove his team to the one-yard line where a second drive stalled. Mobley's 12 yard touchdown pass was caught by Emmett Hall, who also caught passes of 55 yards and 40 yards from Mobley, all in the fourth quarter. Williams, FAMU's leading rusher, scored the game's first touchdown on a nine-yard run on the Rattler's first possession of the game. Other FAMU scores were added by fullbacks Clarence Hawkins on a four-yard run in the third quarter and Mike Thomas on a two-yard run in the fourth quarter. FAMU.
