Other and urgent labors have prevented us from discussing thia matter to which we refer, as we would oth erwise have done. we might pass it no, but that we desire in justice to the people of Bolivar county, to state the cause of their resolutions." Which hare re ceived no mention, and which have not Weighed in tbe said press discussion. Wo will preface this justification of our neighbors by a brief digression lo matters which preceded their recent action. Bolivar county politics have not been marked by that iutenslty oi feeling that grew up in the State iu 1875, and led to tLe extirpation of Radicalism. There a Republi can party organisation wm main tained, subsequent to its disappearance lu all the surrounding counties.

In 1875 there was a fu sion ticket elected. And again in i877. Thongh in the latter year, much ill-feeling grew out of an attempt of which 'Messrs. Llbby and Storm were aconiecT, to trick the Democratic candidates on the fusion ticket, out Of ait election. Last summer a meeting of the Republican executive committee was called and When it assembled a committee of Democrats Appear ed before It.

and proposed the usual division of the local offices. That tbe property owning classes should be accorded a member of the Legislature, a majority of the Board of Supervisors, and tho county treasurer. This proposi tion was discourteously rejected The auswer to It being substan tially, That we see no gain to us in a division, when we can have all." Thus the matter stood nntil the Republican nominating con ventiou assembled to nominate a ticket, practically entirely ignoriug tho claims of the Democratic citi zens. This action was met by the first sot ol Bolivar county rcsolu lions, adopted at Bolivar Landing sua of Which we will only say that they are regretted and con demned by the most of those whoso opinions they pretend to reflect. After this ft Democratic Conser vative convention was called, aud resolutions adopted, calling upon all properly owners of the party (o sign a pledge not to aid any one elected 011 the Republican ticket in making his bond.

TiliS nCtloti, called forth by the reply ol the Republicau cdnteutioii to the office division proposition, is perfectly fair aud defensible. The effort lias been to riiake it appear that thin bond-making resolution is based upon and identified wilh the previous denunciation of Messrs. Storm aud Libby. That the personal character giveu to them iu the denunciatory resolutions, is thecanseof the opposition to their election to office. Wero this the case, the bond-making move would bo intolerant aud subject to reprehension.

It would also be uutcu-abie of defense, from the fact that said Storm and Libby fcate been accepted and used as confederates fa tbe previous fusion agreement. The real defence to this pledge of the property owning citizens of Bolivar county, is found in a true 'statement of its cause; I. e. the utter and contemptuous refusal of the colored race, to recognize a moderate, proper and just request. And this refusal was, presumably, brought about by Messrs.

Storm, Libby, and other Republican leaders. We have made this statement to place the people of Bolivar county In their true attitude; deeming that they have been wronged by previous publications directed to their affairs. We entirely approve the action concerning the making of bonds, and regard it as a defense against the license incident to a government by the lower classes and by tin inferior race. Let that be as it may, such action deserves AO imputations against those who are driven to adopt it. It is action entirely within the limits of order and law.

The counter resolutions of the colored Republicans, procnr'ed by those whose bonds" will not be signed, "That our politics? opponents Will be left to work their own lauds," is simply twaddle. This effort to lug a labor quest iou into this mat ter, is far more reprehensible than auyining mat tins preceded it and is really calculated to lead to lencc. This pledge not to sign official" oonas 01 inose wno are candidates on tbe Republican ticket, has been, we learn, signed by a large proportion of the resident and nonresident property owners of Bolivar county: and totherisrid statutory provioions iu relatiou to Official bonds, tfierri trill hK in oil. probability, an effect uat check placed upon this attempt to admin-1 ister the local government of Bol- i ivar county, without reference to lie ivislirs of property owners. TIIE ELECTION The eloctlon passed of quietly throughout the county! and will be teen bv the statement of returns we publish, largo vote was polled.

The defeat of the In-rWndent caudidates was gene rally conceded prlof to the elec-1W Bat th Utter rout of the titibMiu. is matter of universal ratification. It Is caose of espe cial Mtisfactlon inat we cow, voters so effectually rebuked this effort to induce them to violate the compact in which they had entered. And that, too, in theace of au appeal as demoralising and inflammatory as the old carpetbag fnri acres snd a mule." We of course allude to the removal of the levee tax ota eottou. The decision of this question by the land owners two years sluce, is now numls- takably confirmed by the laboring class.

It was the real Issue 01 me contest. Assailing as it did the Chief Interest of tho county, it enlisted the foil energlos of our party organization. The defeat ofevery candidate that was knowu to favor this removal of the eottou tax was Involved except certain distrust officers on the Creek. In tbo river front districts, where 2750 of the S800 votes woro polled, this proposition was most signally defeated. Wo have no certain information of tbo eloctlon for District Sena tor.

ThoOgh we suppose Mr. S. Anderson, Democrat, is elected. The vote in this county was divi ded between four candidates one a Radical. Mr.

Anderson wonld i.ivn carried this county but for his cotton tax letter. Judge C. W. Clarko Is doubtless elected District Attorney. Mr Faiish, Democratic Conservative nominee, owes his defeat to A va- rioty of causes.

There belug only this county with a vital party or gauization, it was generally doubt ed that a nominee could be elected The independent and bolting can dldatcs were assiduous in Justify lug thoir defection to party by dls- panging his nomination. Many imnd nartv men. when confronted by the dangers of the Pa ton agitation, favored abandoning ail else 4o secure strength in tbat contest. The violence of the strife over toe Chancery Clerk's office, though, was the chief obstacle. Then there woro many too eouservatlve Democrats, who believed, as Judge Clarke had not made an inefficient cifleer, and was, except in times of political emergencies, a good citizen, in bestowiug a liberal appreciation on qualities so rare in a Radical in this latitude.

Tho matter of chief regret in this connection, is that a nomination by a party that has been of such benefit to a community, and is sure In the future to be again called upon to save it, should be held so lightly. WenaveRttledUposlUoato com ment upon the various points of the election, which all are glad is over or to criticise the action of those with whom we widely differ lu the other county offlcos than those to which wo have referred; good and capable men are mainly chosen. The three most import ant, Sheriff, Treasurer and Chan eery Clerk, the old Incumbents are chosen. All are men of character and capacity, fa regard to mauy of the defeated, we feel as soldiers do when a battle Is won toward their comrades who have fallen The following is tbo summary of the result For Senator.
