Gladness as the Mississippi State University Bulldogs defeated a good Oklahoma State University eleven 14-13 at Memorial Stadium Saturday night and disapointment in the Yazoo City high school Indians lost to Jackson Callaway 27-0 Friday night and Manchester Academy lost their first game 12-6 to invading Leake Academy Saturday night. There is fine talent on both the Yazoo City Indian team and the Yazoo City Manchester Maverick eleven. One defeat does not make the season, and there will be many victories in both camps before the leaves fall. Weekend The first "big Saturday" comes this week as all ten members of the Southeastern Conference are slated for football action. However, the match between Mississippi State and Florida is the only battle of two SEC teams.

Both teams won openers last Saturday and it will mean a whole lot to both the winner and the loser in this game to be played at Gainesville. Bill Daniel took time to come by and say goodbye to me last week as he left for his freshman year at Florida State at Tallahassee. One of the joys of sport writing is the acquaintance and friendship of many fine athletes year after year. Buz Morrow, former Yazoo City high school star athlete and a member of the Ole Miss Eligibility rules It will take two or three weeks to get a "good line" on the relative strength of the Big Eight teams, but results to date indicate that Meridian, Biloxi, Jackson Murrah, Gulfport, Jackson Callaway, Jackson Central, Greenwood and Columbus may be the leaders. The Yazoo City Indians could and may vault back up into contention with improvement in certain departments. Prep Grid Picks did well last week in pickin' thirteen right and two wrong.

The only games we missed on was the Yazoo City-Callaway game and the Fairhope, Ala. -Moss Point contest. The previous week (Sept. 4) our pre-game prognosticating was four out of four. And we plan to improve our percentage with another pick for a Yazoo City Indian this week over Clarksdale.
