The Oilers, who got along without a GM for more than a year, named former minor league quarterback Bob Brod-head, 34, to run the club while the Chargers picked Harland Svare, an assistant defensive coach of the Washington Redskins and former Los Angeles Rams' head coach. The Oilers didn't have a general manager last season. Don Klosterman resigned in early 1970 to take the same post with the Baltimore Colls. John Collins, executive vice president of the Oilers who also supervises other interests of the millionaire oilman K. S.

"Bud" Adams, owner of the Oilers, did much of the general manager's work last year and Brodhead said Saturday he will report to Collins. Brodhead was chief financial officer of the Cleveland Browns, named to that post in 1968 after being hired as business manager in 1967. He played quarterback at Duke University and was the 12th round draft choice of the Browns in 1958. Reporting two weeks late to training camp in 1959 because of Army service, he was released and played that year for the Saskatchewan Roughriders in the Canadian Football League. He spent 1960 with the Buffalo Bills and from 1961 to 1066, he was with the Bulldogs of the minor Continental Football league as they played two years in Cleveland, moved on to Canton, Ohio, in 1964 and to Philadelphia in 1965.
