The Honolulu Advertiser Wednesday, January 28, 1987 C-3 Entertainment ii Eddie and friends meet the press SMttd Hu KIIHhJI GOLDEN GLOBE NOMINATIONS! "PLATOON" (R) in DOLBY STEREO Sorry, No Passes! "1 By V'crnon Scott (77 Hollywood Reporter Hollywood comedian Eddie Murphy held court the other day in a curious movie-land tribal rite initiated by Paramount Studios to promote his movie-in-progress, "Beverly Hills Cop II." Murphy seldom gives individual interviews now that he is a superstar. His feelings have been hurt in the past by reporters he says misquote him or misunderstand his responses. That makes him melancholy. A makeshift stage was the setting with four director's chairs emblazoned with the "Beverly Hills Cop 11" logo. Four or five hand microphones were in place at a series of three tables.

Some 30 or 40 members of the media, mostly electronic, faced the empty chairs until at last producers Don Simpson and Jerry Bruckheimer appeared and answered questions. The gist of their thoughts was that Eddie Murphy is the funniest man in the world and that "Beverly Hills Cop II" would be a winner. They were joined by executive producers Robert Wachs and Richard Tienken, who also happen to be Murphy's managers for movies, TV, concerts media: "They change it or they screw up a lot of things 1 say lots of times. I have nothing against you people, it's just that they'll bleep up a lot of things I say get taken out of context. "I feel real personal to this picture.

It's a real important movie to me. That's why I'm here." Somebody asked. "Why?" "Because it made the most money," Murphy said, then laughed. "It's the easiest thing for me to do because I have the most freedom comedically that's why it's really personal." Murphy said he was working on a new record album for which he has written five songs. He added that he didn't know what happened to the plan for a sequel to the hit movie "48 Hours" in which he co-starred with Nick Nolte.

A black reporter asked if Murphy is pressured by the black community to be a role model. "The biggest statement 1 can make is through my work," he said. "I can't see myself going and preaching to kids. If someone admires what I do, fine. If I'm a role model, fine.

People arc going to do what they're going to do anyway." Andrew Bogomil). As the three actors fielded questions, producer Simpson announced that they might be interrupted at any minute by the arrival of (hold your breath here, folks) EDDIE MURPHY in person. Clearly, there would be no ruffles and flourishes or sounding of trumpets. Eddie, being the humble, unpretentious multimillionaire star that he is, would sort of just drop in.

And sure enough, as Cox was answering a question, Murphy ambled onto the stage wearing a Detroit Lions jacket and a wide grin. "Sorry I'm late," Murphy said. "Eddie Murphy is a really great guy and it's a privilege to have worked with him," the trio chorused and like, a nightclub warm-up act, the comedy team of Reinhold, Ashton and Cox quieted down as Murphy took an empty director's chair and faced the media. In response to a question about coping with pressures that arise from enormous success, he said, "The older you get the easier it is to cope." Murphy attempted to explain why he doesn't talk to the midday radio bandstand, developing her following at KCCN, where she put in about a decade of service. Krash Kealoha, from 2:30 to 7 p.m.

After a mercifully brief question-and-answer session the cast was introduced in order of ascending importance. First the villains, Brigitte Nielsen (Sylvester Stallone's real life wife), Jurgen Prochnow and Dean Stockwell. The trio admitted Eddie was a great fellow. Then in came the supporting players who appeared with want to be part of the rebirth. "We also will seek the younger listeners of Island music those who have grown up with the reggae sounds, the Cecilio and Kapono hits.

KCCN has done a remarkable job in exposing Hawaiian music, especially the traditional. We're augmenting that sound; maybe become an alternative."
