One penned by Dr. Carl W. La Force, organizer and president of the Sebastopol Flying Club, was tossed in last week. It read: "In these days when the world Is so full of strife and turmoil, and everyone is holding up to ridicule and condemnation so many things and people, it is indeed refreshing to read your efforts in behalf of aviation in the northern area. On behalf of the club, please accept our sincere appreciation." Thanks, "Doc," and thanks to the 21 members of the club hwo have been helping to make sports aviation history during the tast three years.

THE SEBASTOPOL Flying kClub was organized three years ago by Dr. La Force, who gathered together a bunch of kindred souls who had a common interest in flying. There wasn't a plane in the outfit. But that didn't stop them. Planes could be chartered.

fThey liked to fly so they flew. For the past two years they've been headquartered at the Sono-Jma County Airport. There are plans in the making i for purchase of two club-owned planes, and openings for four members, which will again bring the total to the full quota of 25, i set at time of organization as the Ideal number. The club has made it a point i to hold cost of fun flying to a -bare minimum, consistent with modern safety factors. Member Mendocino-Lake region drew several parties from southern California.

By P. R. SANSON For 27 years C. W. "Bill' Streit was one of the outstanding football officials in the South, and during his career officiated at many important games, including the famous Georgia Tech-California Rose Bowl classic in 1929 in which Roy Reigels of Cal became confused and ran the wrong way scoring for Tech.

Bill's interesting experiences during those years were many, but there is one in particular which stands out. In the Vanderbilt Sewanee game back in 1922 which he was refereeing, one of the players was tacked so violently that he turned a loop in the air and came down head first striking the side of his face sharply on the ground. Fearing that the player was seriously injured Bill rushed up to investigate and was horrified to see that one of the man's eyes was gone. He called all play to stop and as he started toward the bench to notify the coach and doctor of the tragedy, the player yelled to him: "Heck, Mr. Referee, you can relax; my eye's in the dressing room.

It's glass and I never wear it in a game." Send your own true coincidence story to "It Did Happen" Editor, The Press Democrat.
