Journal and Courier, Lafayette-West Lafayette, Indiana, Tuesday, November 25, 1 986 Deaths 2 1 Milestones Earl Mansbridge Earl Mansbridee. 68. of 1019 Cincinnati Bernard F. Layden Bernard Francis Layden, 80, died at 1:10 p.m. Monday in the home of his daughter, Mrs.

Richard (Rachel Anne) Coffman of 1130 Glenway Drive, WL, following a lengthy illness. He formerly lived at 606 E. Fourth Brookston. Born Dec. 5, 1905, in Shadeland, he was reared there.

He spent most of his life in Tippecanoe County and moved to Brookston in 1975. His marriage was June 22, 1932, in Rensselaer, to Zuba O. Zachary. She survives. Mr.

Layden was employed for 38 years at Lafayette Motor Parts Co. and retired in 1970. He was a member of St. Ann Catholic Church. Surviving with his widow, Zuba, and daughter.

4:20 p.m. Sunday in St. Elizabeth Hospital. Mr. Mansbridge formerly worked at Joy Manufacturing Co.

in Michigan City, retiring in 1979 due" to illness. He was born in Cicero, 111., July 19, 1918. Surviving are four daughters, Kathy Mansbridge and Mary Prophet, both of Lafayette, Annette Payne of Galveston, and Karla Ralston of Nashville, and five sons, Ronnie Gruetzmacher of Elkhart, Pat Patterson of Amarillo, Texas, Eddie Hurst of Connecticut, Jerry Mansbridge of La Porte and Robert Mansbridge of Oak Lawn, 111. Clara B. Woods DELPHI Former Delphi resident Mrs.

Clara B. Woods, 80, died at 8:30 p.m. Sunday in Frankfort Nursing Home, where she had lived since 1977. Mrs. Woods had worked at the former Bob's Cafe in Delphi for several years.

She attended Geeti-ngsville Presbyterian Church. She was born Jan. 16, 1906, in Geetingsville. Her marriage was Nov. 22, 1931, to Charles Woods, and he died in 1977.

Surviving are a son, Robert L. Woods of Frankfort; one sister, Sarah Cripe of Geetingsville; and a' brother, Emmitt Miller of Mulberry. Deaths Elsewhere Sir Geoffrey Agnew, art dealer LONDON Sir Geoffrey Agnew, the" dean of London art dealers, is dead at age 78, his firm said Monday. Agnew was the fifth generation in the family firm founded in 1817. He joined the company, on Old Bond Street, in 1931 and was its chairman from 1965 to 1982.

He gave advice to governments on buying art and on the valuation and taxation of art works. Among his clients were J. Paul Getty, the late American oil billionaire, and American banker Paul Mellon. Associated Press Bridwell, former highway head BALTIMORE Lowell K. Bridwell, a former federal highway administrator and Maryland transportation secretary, died Friday at age 62.

Bridwell was a transportation reporter for the Scripps-Howard newspaper chain before joining the tt npnartment of Commerce in 1962 as an under Harold J. Hinton Harold J. Hinton, 74, of 2505 Meadow Drive, died at 7 a.m. Monday in Regency Place. He had been in failing health several years.

A career Navy man, Mr. Hinton served from 1929 until his retirement in 1953 as chief boatswain mate. He served aboard destroyers and battleships, and had duty in the Marshall Islands, Guadalcanal, the Philippine Islands, and the Battle of Sipan. He also worked for Lafayette School Corp. and the county highway department.

Born in Omaha, he lived in San Francisco, before moving to Lafayette in 1953. He attended school in Wichita, and also in Nebraska and U.S. Navy schools. His marriage was May 8, 1946, in Norfolk, to Geneva C. Baudendistle.

She died March 11, 1976. He was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church; Fleet Reserve Association; VFW; American Legion; andDAV. There are no immediate survivors. Leland A.

Sanders Leland A. Sanders, 71, a retired Alcoa employee, died at 12:24 a.m. Monday in Home Hospital. He lived at 7541 S. County Line Road E.

Born Nov. 17, 1915, in Oxford, he had lived in Lafayette since 1945. He graduated from Klondike High School and was a foreman in the extrusion department at Alcoa before his retirement. He also farmed, was a truck driver and a grain dealer. Mr.

Sanders was a former member of Mulberry Masonic Lodge. His marriage was Aug. 16, 1940, in Lafayette, to Bertha Ross. She survives. Also surviving are a daughter, Linda Lea Sanders, at home; his father, Arthur Sanders of West Lafayette; one brother, Merrill Sanders of Lafayette; and two sisters, Mrs.

Kermit (Barbara) Clymer of Lafayette and Mrs. Paul Juanita) McClanahan of West Lafayette. Clint E. Lear MONTICELLO Clint E. Lear, 78, of 904 Oakview Drive, Monticello, formerly of Route 5, Monticello, died at 7:35 a.m.

Monday in White County Memorial Hospital. He had been in ill health several months. Mr. Lear had been a farmer and carpenter all his life. Born March 28, 1908, near Wolcott, he had lived in the Monticello community five years, moving here from Crown Point.

He attended Wolcott High School. He was a member of Monticello Christian Church; IOOF Lodge in Shelby, and Carpenters and Joiners Union in Hammond. His marriage was May 26, 1928, to Evelyn L. Smith, who survives. Also surviving are six sons, Donald L.

Lear of Bay City, Lionel N. Lear of Amarillo, Texas, Jack Lear of Gary, Louis A. Lear of Minnesota, Master Sgt. Jerry L. Lear, stationed with the U.S.

Air Force at Hill Air Force Base, Salt Lake City, Utah, and Larry D. Lear of Lansing, and three sisters, Mrs. Lavina Mull, Mrs. Dicie Lucy and Mrs. Ann Norris, all of Monticello.

Service will be Friday in Monticello. Martha W. Robertson Martha W. Westfall Robertson, 89, of Lafayette, died at 3:40 a.m. Monday in St.

Elizabeth Hospital Medical Center. She had been hospitalized since Oct. 19. She was born Feb. 22, 1897, in Lafayette and was a life resident.

Her marriage was May 14, 1925, in Lafayette, to Raymond Meredith Robertson. He was an attorney and a judge in Lafayette and preceded her in death in 1947. Mrs. Robertson was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church; Daughters of American Revolution; Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority; Order of Eastern Star; and Daughters of American Colonists. She was a member of the board of trustees of Spring Vale Cemetery.

Surviving are a son, James Robertson of West Lafayette; and one daughter, Mrs. Augustus (Marjorie) Helium of Aspen, Colo. Eva M. Ross Eva M. Gillam Ross, 79, of 67 Lori Lee Drive, died at 12:45 a.m.

Saturday in Home Hospital after an extended illness. Born in Carroll County, Sept. 12, 1907, she lived most of her life in the Lafayette area. Her marriage to Gerald "Sam" Ross was in Lafayette Jan. 5, 1927.

He survives. Both Mr. and Mrs. Ross had been employed at Crown Laundry and Indiana Veterans Home. Mrs.

Ross retired in 1974 from the Veterans Home. She formerly worked at the laundry for 30 years. She was a member of Hope Chapel Presbyterian Church; a charter member of Ladies Auxiliary of Eagles 347; and she had served as volunteer Pink Lady at Home Hospital for a number of years. Surviving with the husband is a daughter, Mrs. James (Phyllis) Gruver of Indianapolis.

Ronald C. Doyle MONTICELLO Ronald C. Doyle, 51, of 127 Condo Monticello, died unexpectedly at 3:15 p.m. Sunday in White County Memorial Hospital. Mr.

Doyle was regional manager for Regency apartment complex in Lafayette. He formerly worked at RCA in Monticello for some time, and was employed at Sears in Monticello for 15 years. He also operated Doyle's Electric Appliance Store in Monticello several years, and was city, street and sewage commissioner in Monticello four years. Born Aug. 6, 1935, in Rensselaer, he had lived in Monticello since 1958, moving here from Monon.

He was married Feb. 21, 1953, to Peggy Ann Kesler, who survives. Mr. Doyle was associated with United Methodist Church. Surviving with the widow are two daughters, Mrs.

Vernon (Patricia Pratt and Mrs. Bruce (Pamela Grove, both of Monticello; his mother, Dorothy L. Pearson of Monon; five sisters, Betty Kesler of Buffalo, Verna Ashby of Wolcott, Ruth Ann Krintz of Indianapolis, Connie Harmon of Monticello, and Linda Houser of Delphi; and three brothers, Leroy Doyle of Monon, Paul Doyle of Dayton, Ohio, and Richard Doyle of Monticello. For the Record Rachel Anne, are two brothers, Edward Layden of Columbia, S.C., and Albert Layden of West Lafayette; and two sisters, Mrs. Glenn (Thelma) Rieke of Auburn and Mrs.

Harold (Mary) Jansen of Chicago Heights, 111. J. Raymond Cook J. Raymond Cook, 83, father of Mrs. Sylvia Gyles of Lafayette, died at 10:30 p.m.

Saturday in Hope Nursing Home, in Lawton, Mich. He had been in failing health several years. Born in Lawton, Van Buren County, in 1903, he moved to Ann Arbor, in 1941, and returned to Lawton 12 years ago. He graduated from Decatur High School and Kalamazoo College, and was a country school teacher for YlVz years. He later worked for Bell Telephone Co.

for 30 years before retiring. In 1922, he was married in Decatur, to Myrtle Jackson. She died in 1975. Mr. Cook was a member of St.

Paul Methodist Church in Lawton. Surviving with his daughter, Mrs. Gyles of Lafayette, are another daughter, Eleanore Miller of Indiana River, and a sister, Bess Britton, of Lawton. Andrew Lilly LINDEN Andrew J. Lilly, 62, died Sunday in his home in LaPorte.

He was born Feb. 1, 1924, in Wolcott, and was employed as a carpet layer and tile layer. Surviving are two sisters, Margaret Brettmann of LaPorte and Ermil Spurgeon of Linden; and one brother, David F. Lilly, also of Linden. Service is Wednesday in LaPorte with burial in Monon.

Wilson S. Earnest GOODLAND Wilson S. Earnest, 64, a retired truck driver, was found dead Sunday evening in his home on Newton Street in Goodland. Death was due to natural causes. Born in Cleveland, he came to Goodland from Welch, W.Va., in 1966.

Mr. Earnest served with the Army in the Pacific Theatre during World War II. He was a member of Earl Park American Legion. Surviving are two brothers, John Earnest and Melville Earnest, both of Welch, W.Va.; and one sister, Mrs. Margret Harris of Pasadena, Md.

secretary for transportation. He also served as deputy secretary for the old U.S. Bureau of Roads. From 1967 to 1969, Bridwell served as the federal highway administrator in charge of the nation's highway system. He was named state transportation secretary in 1981.

Bridwell started his own consulting agency in the 1970s. He had been serving as director of the transportation studies center at Maryland's School of Engineering. Mr. Pluimer, a farmer, and the former Ruth Helen Zink, a food service employee at Otterbein Elementary School, were married Nov. 27, 1946, in St. Patrick Catholic Church. They have seven children, Julia Solomon of Boca Raton, Jane McGriff of St.

Joseph, Michael Pluimer of Fowler, Dianna Garriott and Kate Pluimer, both of Lafayette, Debra Arnoldi of Ann Arbor, and Karen Ahlbrand of Muncie. They also have 11 grandchildren. No formal invitations have been sent. Family and friends are invited. They request gifts be omitted.
