Since it went into operation, several thousand visit or in addition to PJC staff and students have gained better understanding of the mysteries of the universe through this 20th century electronic teaching aid. Planetarium Director Edward Guilbert, Assistant Professor of Astronomy, is enthusiastic in his work. We've had an average of about two groups of bout 60 each visit the planetarium each week since we opened, except for a drop off during the summer. This is the way we want it. We want the 1 entire community to enjoy the planetarium and the illusion of observing the night sky.

The universe fascinates us all and a visit to the planetarium, seated in pitch blackness, observing the movement of the celestial bodies, is an experience en joyed by all. Most of our visitors have been students, but we have also had numerous organized dult groups. Our programs have been of varyi.g length nd nature depending, of course, upon the audience. The rate of apparent movement of the heavenly bodies can be varied and even reversed, giving the effect of time control.

The sky can be presented as it was 26,000 years ago or will be 26,000 years hence. Demonstrations run about 40 minutes followed by a question period, time permitting. Also of interest to visitors is a museum in the planetarium lobby containing exhibits of many celestial items. Among these are an operating model of a solar system and lighted transparent color photographs.

The planetarium is located at the Eastern end of the Science complex opposite the Health Building.
