Mrs. Carpenter, a native of Memphis, said that when the channel goes on the air, it will probably operate from 8 a.m. until 8:30 or 9 p.m. All of the programs will not be aimed at the classrooms.

"The junior college will be offering credit courses for adults to take in their homes," she said. And then there will be programs of general interest gardening, home economics, ballet, concerts. "In some places they even have programs for chess fans," she said. Mrs. Carpenter, who has a master's from Baylor University and most of the work completed on a Ph.

D. at the University of Florida, was instrumental in setting up the ETV station at Gainesville that serves nine counties. She moved here with her husband who is dean of administrative affairs at the University of West Florida, and has been director of ETV at the junior college since last April. The station here started last year when the State Educational Television Commission granted Escambia about $178,000 (half its two-year budget) and the U. S.

Department of Health, Education and Welfare matched that sum. The county school board, which controls the spending of this money, will have to pay for operating the station. Because of a 500-foot limit to the sending tower (due to air traffic) the station will not cover a multi-county area as most other ETV stations in Florida do. However, Mrs. Carpenter said its signal is expected to be received in most, if not all, of Escambia County and parts of Santa Rosa County.

"We hope that Phase 2 will enable us to cover a larger area," she said. Phase 2 will involve building another tower, probably to the east of Pensacola Courses being prepared for junior college students are English, biology, history, psychology and the humanities. PJC faculty members are doing this work. "Planning committees are working on secondary and elementary school programs," she said. Already, principals and supervisors of elementary schools have said what courses they want taught math, Spanish, science, art and physical education.

How television teachers will be chosen and whether they will be full or part time ETV staffers, are questions that the school board will have to decide. But Mrs. Carpenter has views on both.
