At the start of the raids Sellers looked like he had for the past few months seedy, with long sideburns, dirty hair, cheap work clothes and in bad need of a shave. At mid-day, his work completed, he shaved, got his first haircut in months and donned a suit. A former deputy sheriff in Jacksonville, Sellers saw his wife and children in the Florida city "very seldom" during his undercover duty. Sellers purchased 1,000 gallons of moonshine in the three-county area while posing as a middleman.
