Wednesday, January If, 1977 ILI INTELLIGENCER Even Freezer Worker Finds Winter Cold When temperatures skid to below zero they josh Jim Turney as the man came in from the warm. For 25 years Turney has worked in the freezer room of an ice cream plant in temperatures of 30 to 40 below zero. He operates a fork-lift truck, moving drums of ice cream for shipping. But Chicago's coldest winter of century is even getting to Turney'. "The cold is dry where I work and doesn't get to you as fast," he says.

"Outdoors when it's 10 below and the wind is blowing, it goes right through you. It's the dampness that cuts you." On the job, he wears two insulated undersuits, a -pair of coveralls, fur-lined gloves and Insulated boots and headpiece. "When I go outside these days, I keep the same clothes on," said Turney, whose work day starts at 5 a.m. "And I have a hard time keeping warm. Cold is cold no matter how you look at it." Equity, the British union which had refused to let Donna McKechnie play the lead in the all-British cast of "A Chorus Line," relented Tuesday, and Miss McKechnie will be allowed to work in the London company for four weeks to keep the hit musical from closing until a British star is Miss McKechnie created the role of Cassie in the off- Broadway and productions of the musical in New York Difficult as it may be to think of Elizabeth Taylor as a schoolmarm, that's what she is today for real, at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville.

Guy Madison, whom we see about as much as Mature anymore, is 55 today. --From Lindsay-Schaub wires ABC Top Ratings New York (AP) A movie and. three consistent ratings winners pushed ABC into first place in video viewing again, this time by a five-point margin, for the week ending Jan. 16, according to the latest A. C.

Nielsen figures. Nielsen latest ratings put ABC's Sunday night, movie, "Little Ladies of the Night," at the top, followed respectively by "Happy Days," "Laverne Shirley" and "Six-Million- Dollar Man;" According to the national prime-tine averages, CBS was in second place and NBC, third. ABC had six of the top 10: shows. The week's lowest-rated program was an NBC pilot, "Bunco," which was 67th. In order, the top 10 programs were "Little Ladies of the Night," "Happy Days," ''Laverne Shirley," and "Six- Million-Dollar Man," all ABC; CBS; "Charlie's Angels," ABC; "Fantasy Island," ABC's Friday movie; "One Day at a Time," CBS; "Little House on the Prairie," NBC; and "60 Minutes," CBS.

The next 120 shows were "The Death of Richie," NBC's Monday movie; "Laverne Shirley Birthday Special," ABC; "Man with the Golden Gun," ABC's Monday movie; "Starsky and Hutch," ABC; "The Waltons" and "The Jef- fersons," both CBS, tied for 15th place; "Bionic Woman" and "Welcome Back, Hotter," both ABC, tied for 17th place: "Sanford arid Son," NBC, and "What's Happening" arid "Barney Miller," both ABC, Ued in 20th place.
