0. Schaber of Hudson. Arthur Dow of Sioux Falls moved his family to Hawarden, where he had obtained employment. Samuel Engel of Sioux Falls, purchased the Bakom property, just west of the Milwaukee depot. Dell Sweley moved a residence from the North Side onto his lots just north of the Methodist church.

Dan Garrett departed for Nebraska where he planned to work on C. R. Allen's cattie and horse ranch. Little James Gehan put a bullet through his foot Oct. 13th while experimenting with a target rifle.

Frank Stockton sold his residence property to Geo. D. Brown, manager of J. H. Queal lumber yard.

Walter Scott purchased the handsome residence property belonging to Mrs. Stein, near the Iowa street bridge. Geo. Niehaus placed an order for two new chairs of the latest hydraulic pattern, with pedestal bases, for his barber shop. Ensign's mill was again operating after a shut down of several weeks, during which time considerable new machinery was installed and other improvements made.

While gathering autumn leaves to decorate her school room, Miss Anna Smith received a bad case of poisoning. Her sister, Miss Jennie was Ailing her place in the class room. R. W. Rinkhouse of Titpton, Iowa, purchased J.

Hobson's farm of 120 acres adjoining town for a consideration of $9,600, and the unimproved 120 acre Gurley tract just south of it for $50 per acre. Among the names called for petit jury duty for the November term of court at Orange City were W. E. Bray, Home Balcom, L. M.

J. G. Anderson disposed of his hote business at Fairview and returned to Hawarden. Harold King submitted to an ap- pendicitis operation at the Hawarden lospital on Oct. llth.

9th. Geo. E. Bonner was the new super- ntendent of the Northern Iowa division of the North Western road. He received his appointment Oct.

1st. Peter Prince of Chicago purchased the Lebanon store from W. C. Kooiman, and Mr. Kooiman moved to Ireton to accept a position in a store Mrs.

John A. Johnson arrived home )ct. 7th from a trip of several months Sweden, where she visited her aged mother and looked over the scenes of icr childhood home. A large crowd attended the formal opening of H. Margolin Sons department store Oct.

Miss Elinor Mae Brest and Mr. Ellwood H. Jacobe were united in marriage at the Congregational church in this city on Oct. 12th. Rev.

A. R. Hyatt performed the ceremony and Mr. and Mrs. Frank Hamerly were the only witnesses.

Mrs. Henry Margolin was painfully injured Oct. llth when she slipped while descending the stairs to the basement of the Margolin store. She struck the cement floor with her face and head and a bad gash was cut in the side of her head and she was oth erwise painfully bruised. D.

M. Morgan and Geo. Cole departed for Windsor, to take in the big horse race between the great American horse, "Man 'o War," and the champion English horse, "Sir Barton." The race was for a purse of $75,000 to decide the championship between the two greatest race horses of that day. A double reception was held Oct. 12th at the Methodist church in this city.

A large number of the members and friends of the church gathered to bid farewell to Rev. Jas. J. Davies and family, who were moving to their new home at Ida Grove, and also to extend a cordial welcome to Rev. and Mrs.

W. A. WinterStein, who was the new pastor of the church. C. M.

Fleshman was seriously injured Oct. 7th when he fell through the back stairway leading down from the Eagle's hall, He was descending the stairway when one of the steps gave way and as he fell several more gave way and he struck them, until he finally dropped through to the ground, a distance of about 12 feet. He was rushed to the 'hospital where it was discovered that two bones were broken in his right leg and he was otherwise badly bruised. These Men Registered in Hawarden Wednesday Moe Hospital to be Lutheran Home The Moe Hospital was founded in Sioux Falls by Dr.

and Mrs. Anton J. Moe in 1918. Previous to that time Dr. Moe operated a hospital for 16 years at Heron Lake, Minn.

Moe Memorial Hospital and Home will be governed by a South Dakota board of directors under the Lutheran Social Service Association, Inc. The new fireproof convalescent hospital and home will be open to all people of all creeds and nationalities. Old folks and invalids will be cared for in a Christian atmosphere. Edgar Alan Moe, son of Dr. and Mrs.

Moe, is manager and is receiving applications at the office of the hospital at 515 S. Main Sioux Falls, S. D. The association is nonprofit and prices will be within the reach of everyone. On Wednesday afternoon a number of ladies gathered at her home for the same purpose. Lunch was served at both times by the self invited guests. Mrs. A. R.

Laudi was an Akron visitor one day last week. Harry Dalgliesh visited with relatives here one day last week. Ralph Becker returned to Yankton where employed as Shocked to learn of the death of Mrs. Otto Leiff, mother of Albert Leiff, Mr. and Mrs.

Kenneth Sorgdrager and twin sons were guests of her mother Tuesday evening. Chris Schiefen was in town Wednesday and looked after the registration of those in the draft age. Mrs. W. J.

Kelley and baby and Mrs. G. H. Schafer visited Tuesday afternoon in the Elvie Easton home. Mrs.

H. B. Dalgliesh returned Monday evening from Sioux City where she had visited with relatives and friends. Lyle and Lowell Stinton, Dolores Vander Hamra and Maxine Lake called on the formers' mother Saturday evening. Jake Vogelzang visited Monday with his brother, Frank Vogelzang.

Fred Vogelzang of Alcester was in town the same day. The Chatsworth ball team played the Ha warden ball team 'Tuesday afternoon It was a pretty close game but the Hawarden team finally won out. Mr. and Mrs. Louis Schumacher and Don of Sioux City visited with relatives here one day last week.

Mr. Schumacher remained for a longer visit while the others returned home the same evening. Mrs. Frank Vogelzang entertained 17 ladies of a clxfb from Plymouth county last Friday afternoon. Luken was the leader.
