The dog fight was just a portion of the Confederate Air Force World War II Air Show Sunday and Monday at the Greater Southwest International Airport.

More than 40,000 people turned out in the five days to see 20 aircraft of World War II vintage owned by the CAF and its members. The planes were on display each morning for every airplane buff to view. And in the afternoon a two- hour air show provided thrills for the audience. Other acts during the two-day show included mass parachute drops, scrambles of fighters and bombers, airborne commando raids, bomb runs a pylon race, and special aerial demonstrations saluting planes of the Marines, Air Force, and Navy. Airplanes at the show included a P-38 Lightning, P-40 War- hawk, F-8F Bearcat, B-17 Flying Fortress, P-51 Mustang, German Messerschmidt M-109, British Spitfire, and P-63 King Cobra.

The old aircraft are estimated to be worth several thousands of dollars and are considered to be some of the rare World War II aircraft that still fly. The CAF needs only four additional aircrafts to fill the complement of World War II planes. Proceeds from the event went to further the CAF Flying Museum, based in Harlingen, Texas, as well as costs for acquiring and restoring missing planes. DR. ENRIQUE E.
