golf Caraway came to Pur due from his native Texas with Ralph Welch and played football for Purdue for three years He also was an outfielder at Purdue and hit 556 one year After graduation he played pro baseball with the St Louis Cardinals for a few years before getting into coaching He was athletic director at the Indiana State Prison for a time then later coached football at Lehigh and Massachusetts State His last position before re tiring was teaching high school at Carthage He is survived by the widow the former Eliza beth Mavity of West Lafay ette and a daughter MRS LIZZIE KELL Mrs Lizzie Kell 85 the mother of a Lafayette resi dent died Thursday night in her home at Russell Springs Ky after an ex tended illness A native and life resi dent of Kentucky she was married to Loren
