I'd like Chapman to tell us how and why a football game is a patriotic event. Is there a law that says people must respect the irrelevant pregame ritual, which some say is not only ridiculous but demeans and trivializes the flag and National Anthem? Are we a nation of free people ruled by laws, or sheep ruled by fascist thugs? KURT BUTLER certainly includes "emotionalism." This is the only "ism" I can imagine that allows him to compare Zionism and Nazism. 'Zionism affirms a right to life, Nazism suppresses it.

To compare Israel's self-defense to Hitler's insanity, demonstrated by the camps, ovens and other unspeakable tortures, is a ludicrous impossibility. Mintz's assertion that Israel either eliminates Palestinians or instigates their murders is as unfounded MAURICE APOTHEKER Preventing AIDS I was quite pleased to see The Honolulu Advertiser talk candidly about safe sex practices to prevent AIDS. Your article on attacks by a political candidate for Congress about public health agencies and programs disseminating clear and accurate guidelines to promote safe sex practices was useful. A couple of other points about that article: First, the use of the phrase "hard-core homosexual" is sensational and unnecessary in reporting the facts. Just what is a hard-core or even a soft-core homosexual? Second, this politician who has said many times that he wants to "protect" the community from AIDS is constantly condemning good Hats off? So Don Chapman would like to see Rambo "educate" (i.e., bash the heads of) those who didn't take their hats off during the Star-Spangled Banner before the UH-BYU game: This clearly illustrates the pernicious influence that the fairy-tale character is having on some people, especially those with thimble-size My great-grandfather and grandmother (from Kona) were pure Hawaiian.

I thank the many people here in Kona who support Youth with a Mission, as I do. WATTIE MAE HEDEMANN public health practices such as good primary prevention activities to cut its transmission.

He is so entrenched with his own "hidden agenda" unrelated to the AIDS issue, that he wants to stop the flow of accurate information because it would mean preventing transmission in people he doesn't apparently want to help. I hope the Hawaii community will see behind rhetoric. It's not a concern for eradicating a community health problem, but a homosexual eradication program. Misdirecting the public's attention to promote discrimination isn't a healthy or wise direction for a public leader. WILLIAM E.

We were thrilled to hear Pat Robertson and Oral Roberts phone in live their message of congratulation and blessings. Greetings from President Reagan were conveyed from Washington, D.C., by Carolyn Sundeth. Soon Kona will have over 2,000 students in attendance per quarter (over 8,000 students per year).

Many of their parents and their friends will be visiting them while they are here in Kona. This will help our economy and be a more positive growth. We are honored to have the international headquarters here in Kona. How fitting it is, since this is the first place the missionaries landed in 1820.
