Women's Activities B-2 Thursday, Dec. 9, 1965 THE MODESTO BEE What In The World Ever Happened To Curves? By Pauline S. Walker Home economics director, McClatchy newspapers you flunked out or had a tough time with geometry, cheer up. Fashion is offering a refresher course. No more curves to cope with, the angles of geometric diagrams having replaced them.

According to a recent re port from Italy, which agrees with most of this country's fashion thinking, today's women are caught fashion revolution which wants, above all, to appear young, whether they are or not. And they want a youthful look which is readily apparent. The changes have been gradual but it seems only a brief time since the women who had curves were glad of it; the designers were making an all out effort to add them where they were missing among the less fortunately endowed members of the feminine flock. Shape was being built in as one of the A striking example of the geometric influence is this sleeveless cocktail dress designed by Pino Lancetti of Rome. In pale biscuit silk goffre, its center seam opens at the bust to form a triangle, revealing a second skirt beneath, some two inches longer.

Ideal for a New Year's Day game, both the coat and dress of this sportive ensemble from Antonelli of Rome are outlined with broad bands of white. The helmet hat is worn back to reveal her bangs. Holiday Sparkle Sets Mood At Post-Concert Reception Cookie Tree Omega Nu Sorority Honors Inactive Members Christmas cheer abounded in the Joseph Ruddy home on Helen Avenue Tuesday afternoon for the open house given by Phi Gamma Chapter, Omega Nu Sorority, to honor inactive members of the group. More than 75 women dropped in between the hours of 3 and 6 o'clock for refreshments and chatter. A large Santa Claus face with a bright red ornament for a nose beamed a welcome on the front door.

Within, a fire burned in the fireplace and two large chunky white candles glowed at the ends of the mantel, each one based in gold tinsel feathered leaves. Candles And Holly The glitter and sparkle of the holiday season set the background for the post-concert reception held by the Modesto Symphony Orchestra Guild in the Charles Saunders home on Griswold Avenue following Tuesday night's program. Honored at the event were Marilyn Ulm, Robert Parmeter, Margaret Douglass and Mary Gamble, members of the orchestra who had Red candles and English holly centered the dining room table where hostesses, clad in long skirts, presided at the tea and punch services. The committee included Jacqueline Foret, Mmes. Harry (Bud) Gorman, John Gilmore, John L.

Mensinger, Carson Taylor and Ruddy. Mrs. Leo Milich was general chairman. Attention centered around a stylized tree made by Mrs. Louis F.

(Bud) Gianelli, president, of wood covered with sparkled tissue paper and decked with ornaments and cards trimmed with gold braid and ribbon. Each card represented some civic or charity project of the organization for the year. A light features of well made clothes. Now much of this superstructure in apparel has been eliminated and today's dynamic women, in their search for the youthful look, might just as well, or better, have the figure of an 8-yearold girl. Line Is Lean Italian designers, particularly those new generations, are devising a lean, essential line, obviously and emphatically derived from geometric diagrams.

Shoulders or coats and jackets are considerably wider, seams form short lines which include geometric cuts and make the short skirts of piece lime-green knit shot with silver thread accents. Rhinestone and silver buttons highlighted the ensemble and her black shoes glittered with matching accents. An arrangement in the large foyer set the yuletide mood of the evening with a table tree styled from artificial red and green leaves and golden grapes. Guarding the tree were two copper and brass angels holding green tapers. Three in back of the tree accented ed by the sorority to com- was Mrs.

Right angle seams race from the neckline to make a sharp right angle turn at the waistline. Rectilinear lines form hems and bandings and mitered corners have attained style status. While the squares and rectangles of Mondrian art still are going strong, study these photographs of the latest designs from Italy. Then, to complete the short refresher course, try counting the straight lines, parallels, triangles and the abrupt right angles, remembering that, in this case, the sum total equals the youthful look! wall plaques from Mexico, depicting the three Biblical kings, formed a background for the arrangement.

The dining table was laid with a cloth of alternating squares of lace and pale green embroidered linen. The centerpiece was a family heirloom footed coffee server in silver on matching tray holding an arrangement of red roses and fern. Echoing the red roses was a silver bowl containing an arrangement of the bright blossoms against a background of fir on the sideboard. On each side were tall red candles in six graduated silver candie holders. Punch was served in the lanai by Mrs.

Gilbert McKinzey from a crystal punch bowl. The rosy hue of the beverage was complemented by pink Christmas garlands at the base of the bowl. Serving during the evening were Mmes. Marion Belt and Robert Beck. Serving on the committee were Mmes.
