Due to a shortage of experi enced personnel the Navy has initiated a program that will allow a person experienced in certain fields of industry to en list in the Navy in the petty officer ratings in the particular field of his civilian experience Announcement of the program was made by Chief PO William Price Local Navy recruiter Chief Price said the qualified applicants for the program will enlisted in the constructipn battalion (SeaBees) which re quires at background training and experience than is required of applicants for en listment into the regular Navy Applicants must have a mini mum of 36 months on the job experience be under 40 years of age and must meet the gen eral mental and physical re quirements for enlistment The minimum enlistment for this program is 30 months The program will permit the qualified applicant to begin his military service as a petty offi cer with pay ranging from a minimum of $19020 (single) to a maximum of $418 (married) in lieu of a starting pay of $10230 The Navy Construction Bat talion is particularly interested in carpenters electricians earthmoving equipment oper ators and mechanics metal smiths air conditioning and re frigeration mechanics telephone linemen and repairmen Chief Price emphasized that it is not the intention of the Navy Recruiting Service to in discriminately solicit the enlist ment of craftsmen and techni cians from local industrial and labor organizations Rather he explained it would be more advantageous to man agement and labor alike to have their craftsmen and tech nicians working in their par ticular skills and increasing their knowledge and proficiency while fulfilling their military obligation urther information about the program may be obtained from the local Navy Recruiting Of fice 532 Main St Artil lery Group near Babenhausen Germany The award was presented to him for his overall administra tion of the mess hall its cleanli ness the quality of preparation and service of food and the appearance and attitude of mess hall personnel Galvin is mess steward of Headquarters Battery 2nd Bat talion of the 36th Artillery 5th Artillery He was stationed in Vietnam prior to his arrival in said One of the girls Phyllis Can non 9 died a few hours after the shooting Pamela Cannon 13 and Patricia Cannon 11 re mained in critical condition Officers said the father John Overton Cannon of suburban Iving had been shot in the right temple at close range and that a 32 caliber revolver was clutched in his right hand Investigators said Cannon had gone to the home of his es tranged wife early riday after noon and picked up the girls ostensibly to buy school clothes Pamela told officers they had checked into the hotel room and the father ordered them to kneel and say their prayers She struggled with him and was shot in the head but managed to get to the hotel lobby Quarter Horse Association Donates Prize A black registered quarter horse provided by the Indiana Quarter Horse
