Wiest wishes to express their appreciation to all their friends who Poor Nations' Death Rates Falling Slowly WASHINGTON (AP). Death rates in poor countries are declining at a much slower rate than in the years just after World War Il and much slower than was predicted, according to a study. The report by Davidson Gwatkin in the current issue of the quarterly "Population and Development Review" suggests a link between the slowed decline and a slower growth in food production and literacy, and political and economic disturbances. "The suggestion emerging from recent findings is that the remarkably rapid rates of mortality decline that have prevailed since World War II have begun to falter, to give way to a confused, diverse and ambiguous situation marked by unexpected slowdowns in the pace of health improvements in many large areas of the developing world," the report said.
