they had been hear ing since Tuesday was dismissed on a plaintiff's motion The jury had heard evidence in the $3500 possession and damage suit trial filed by Homer Har ris of Rt 9 against George and Anna Purcell also of Rt 9 in Shel by Township 1 The suit involved a mixup in a lease agreement between Harris and the Purcells Thursday afternoon after plaintiff's attorney George Weigle rested the case the defense attorney William Bennett filed a motion for a di rected verdict Judge Munro overruled the mo tion for a directed verdict riday morning Then the at torney filed a motion to reopen the case to present further evi dence This motion was denied and the attorney then filed the motion to dismiss the case Judge Munro then discharged the jury The Harris complaint stated that on June 1 1961 Harris leased a farm in Shelby Township from Mr and Mrs but that the Purcells had held full posses sion of the property since that time Harris was attempting pos session of the farm and to collect failing health for three years Born in Battle Ground Mrs Campbell was a life resident of the community She was married in 1904 to Sherman Campell a retired carpenter who died in 1948 Mrs Campbell was in the first graduating class of Battle Ground High School in 1899 when the school offered only a three year course She was a member of the Methodist Church Mrs father Charles Marine was a first cousin of James Whitcomb Riley the Hoosier poet and was the first graduate of the old Battle Ground Institute which was in the pre Purdue University era He later taught there Surviving are a son James of Battle Ground with whom she made her home and a daughter Mrs Vera Young of Lafayette DR JOE LANE CLARKS Mrs Nellie Holst has received word of the death of hr nephew Dr Joe Lane 45 who died of a heart at tack in his home at Lexington Ky i Bom in Clarks Hill he was the son of the late Clarence Lane He was graduated from Clarks Hill High School and was a vet eran of World War II reaching the EMMA McGOURAN RENSSELAER Mrs a Grace (Michael) McGouran 55 died in Jasper County Hospital at 6 pm Thursday She had been in health since 1957 and entered the hospital a few days ago Born in Jordan Township in Jasper County Mrs McGouran was a life resident of the county except for 12 years when she lived in Chicago She was married in 1937 to ran cis McGouran who died in 1950 She was a member of
