2B COLLEGE FOOTBALL Thursday, September 24, 2009 Montgomery Advertiser Troy fullback Nolin recovers fast after latest surgery NOTEBOOK ending his college career. "I've spent the last five years giving everything I have to this school," he said. "I have too much fight left in me to roll over. "I only have a few more months to play and I'm going to try to enjoy every moment of it." Alignment problems: Offensive coordinator Neal Brown said he disagreed with four penalties against the Trojans last weekend for faulty alignment. Troy drew four flags for having just six men on the line of scrimmage because left tackle James Brown, in the officials' view, wasn't properly aligned.

Troy tied a school record with 15 penalties, 12 of which were against the offense. (One of Brown's didn't count because of first of two straight for the Hawks. Huntingdon (2-1) is off next week before hosting Millsaps on Oct. 10. "I can't wait," defensive end Zach Brothers said.

"It's always good to play in front of our fans, and sleep in our own beds the night before." The Hawks didn't sleep in their own beds the night of their loss at Oshkosh. Unable to line up a flight home, Huntingdon stayed in Milwaukee on Saturday night and flew home Sunday. The bus left for the airport before dawn Sunday. Up at 4, fly to Atlanta, bus to Montgomery and then do our normal Sunday routine," Turk said. "We got our film graded and started getting ready for next week.

It turned into a 16-hour day pretty A. Stacy Long One day, he hinted, he may come in full suit and tie. "Something just totally random," he said. ASU starts pregame march: Arkansas State is unveiling what it hopes becomes a pregame tradition Saturday. The Red Wolves are having the inaugural "Red Wolf Walk" starting at 1:15 p.m., just more than two hours before kickoff.

The team will walk around the outside of ASU Stadium. A. Stacy Long HUNTINGDON Hawks hope to forget turnover-laden loss Huntingdon is still fretting over the five turnovers that led to last weekend's 31-13 loss at Wisconsin-Oshkosh. TROY Troy fullback Nate Nolin, after his latest surgery, didn't wait long to return to the Trojans. Nolin is back from surgery on his left knee performed this season.

The senior's career has featured shoulderlabrum surgery, right knee surgery, a broken back and a lacerated kidney. There have also been "several concussions. Some documented, some not," he says. Surgery on his right knee will come after the season. "I still feel good," Nolin said.

"Hopefully, I'll get back in the rotation this week." Nolin didn't see action against UAB, but he did at Florida. He was on the field-goal team and the kickoff return team and saw three offensive plays of action. But he never considered offsetting penalties.) "Four of them were knick-knack stuff," Neal Brown said. "You're not going to see that called in any other conference in the country. "One of the four times, he was probably not on the line, but their defensive end lined up offsides the whole game." Brown down in orange: Quarterback Levi Brown's weekly Monday shirt choice, always noteworthy, went back to his interest in Africa and stopping genocide in Darfur.

It was white on top and orange on the bottom, with an outline of Africa and a peace sign over it. Brown has regularly worn musically based shirts, though he wore a Darfur shirt two weeks ago. "I figured I'd alternate weeks between Africa and music stuff," Brown said. There were two that came inside the Oshkosh 10-yard line, one that the Titans returned for a touchdown and the oddity of another. "The game was so disappointing," receiver Cody Pear-cy said.

"We played a decent game, I thought, but our turnovers turned into touchdowns real quick. We could play with that team." On one turnover, quarterback Justin Ridgeway couldn't handle an off-kilter snap. When it hit the ground, Ridgeway inadvertently kicked it. It went straight to an Oshkosh player. "There's no cure for that kind of stuff," coach Mike Turk said.

"You just have to go back to work." The Rebels are highly ranked but untested after easy opening victories against Memphis and Southeastern Louisiana. Ole Miss (2-0) opens its Southeastern Conference schedule tonight at South Carolina (2-1, 1-0) in front of a national television audience. "It's going to be a big showcase for us," defensive end Kentrell Lockett said. "We can show the work and show people that we're a top-five caliber team. So it's going to be a big opportunity for us." And maybe a chance for Mississippi quarterback Jevan Snead to show Gamecocks coach Steve Spurrier he should have stuck to his original preseason all-SEC team ballot, the one with Snead instead of Florida's Tim Tebow.

Remember that summertime whodunit? It turned out Spurrier had a staffer fill out his all-SEC ballot and didn't realize Snead was placed ahead of Tebow. He later changed his vote to make Tebow a unanimous selection. Snead and the Rebels have drawn plenty of attention coming into this season. A 3-0 start would be its best opening since 1989. Spurrier hopes South Carolina can call on its Thursday night success the past few years.

The Gamecocks have won five of seven such spotlight games with their head ball coach, including a 38-23 victory in 2007 over an unbeaten and rising Kentucky program. The College Football Hall of Fame, which never managed to attract the number of visitors its organizers hoped for after moving it to South Bend, in 1995, is being moved to Atlanta to bring it more exposure, organizers told the city. The National Football Foundation notified the city of South Bend in a letter Tuesday that it is terminating its agreement with the city when its current lease ends on Dec. 31, 2010. South Bend Mayor Stephen Luecke said Wednesday that he met with football foundation officials on Tuesday and they told him that the move would be announced at a news conference today in Atlanta.

College Football Hall of Fame officials did not return telephone messages from The Associated Press, but issued a statement thanking the city of South Bend for its support. The hall moved to South Bend from Kings Mills, Ohio, in 1995 to take advantage of its proximity to Notre Dame. Supporters predicted it would attract more than 150,000 visitors a year, but it drew about 115,000 people the first year and about 60,000 annually after that. NFL Barber says he feels fine Marion Barber walked out to the practice field in full gear Wednesday and flashed a thumbs-up. His tight left thigh was feeling fine or, at least, good enough to give it a test run.

Barber did some light jogging and caught a few balls during the portion of practice open to reporters. The Cowboys refused to say what else the starting running back did or didn't do because they don't have to put out an injury report until today, because their next game is Monday night. Barber strained his leg during a 35-yard run late in the fourth quarter of Dallas' loss to the New York Giants on Sunday night. It might've been a 42-yard touchdown run had he not come up lame. Barber said it "felt like a bad cramp" and that it's happened to him before.

He's hopeful of playing against Carolina on Monday night. Cowboys left tackle Flozell Adams has been fined $12,500 for kicking two New York Giants on Sunday, making it two straight games he's been fined. Adams was punished not only for the second-quarter play that left Justin Tuck with a shoulder injury, but also for doing it to former Troy player Osi Umenyiora in the fourth quarter. Adams was flagged for kicking Tuck, but not for the swipe at Umenyiora. After the game, Tuck called it a "bush league play," and Adams shot back Monday, saying he didn't know Tuck was hurt, adding, "From a supposed kick? Tell him to stay up.

It ain't my fault." Adams also was fined $5,000 for an unnecessary roughness penalty against Tampa Bay in the opener, which Adams said he wants to appeal. PGA Tour Finchem says Tour may lose events Even as the economy shows signs of recovering, PGA Tour commissioner Tim Finchem said Wednesday that shrinking marketing budgets of major companies could lead to the loss of title sponsors, and possibly some tournaments.
