For the armchair explorer, there's the second of four lectures slide shows on exploring Hawaii, set for 7 tonight at Kuykendall Auditorium at UH-Manoa.

This one's titled, "Lanai, the Pineapple Island," and Willis Moore of the Hawaii Geographic Society will explain. Camping, hiking and backpacking are scrutinized. It's $3 at the door. This is sponsored by the UH Continuing Education folks. The Light Fantastic Jazz Ensemble, 20 high-school and college musicians, will give a free concert at 7 p.m.

at the Ala Moana Center. No kidding, mom: And tonight at Aloha Stadium, it's "Baseball and Ballet." This is a presentation in which members of the Honolulu City Ballet company perform with Islander players (catchers don't have to wear tutus). The Islanders play Spokane. Tonight's baseball clinic features members of the outfield describing the best method to approach a woman over 40 in Ogden, Utah. Ballet begins at 6:45, baseball at 7:30.

And now we'll find out just how modern the modern Army is: If you've got II bucks and are naked, they'll let you into the 8th "Mr. Nude Military Hawaii" extravaganza out at the Hawaii Nudist Park on the North Shore near Kahuku. Gates open at 9 a.m., but you gotta drop your skivvies to get in. Tops too, girls. Queen Liliuokalani is fondly remembered by the Kalihi-Palama Culture Arts Society with a pageant and hula competition for kids starting at 1 today at Farrington High's school auditorium. Children 6 to 12, who are enrolled in hula studios and halaus from Kauai, Hawaii and Oahu, will do their stuff. Winner will be awarded title of Miss Keiki Hula 1979 (and good luck if a boy wins).
