reindictment of five persons and the indictment of a sixth in connection with $30 million thefts from Canadian banks A federal grand jury ruled the six men had conspired to steal bonds early in 1958 and dispose of them through international banking circles The government said the men conspired to stell $30 million in stolen bonds But the indictments returned last year and Wednes day covered only a small part of that amount The government said Swiss banking officials uncovered the plot and notified police leading to the first indictment of the five men bn July 1 1959 Additional information from Switzerland brought about the second indict ment officials said It was one of the few times the Swiss have given American officials evidence for criminal prosecution Swiss banking offi cials are Nations battle between the Soviet Union and the seemed assured Thursday over the issue of which of the two great powers is responsible for threatening world peace The issue was sharply drawn Wednesday night when President Eisenhower accepted a Soviet challenge on aircraft flights and declared his determination to make a case the lawless ac tions and reckless threats of the Soviet The challenge was hurled by the Soviet government when or eign Minister Andrei A Gromyko a few hours earlier demanded an emergency session Of the Security council In a cable to headquarters he charged the US Air orce with aggres sive activities against the Soviet Union and said they constitute a threat to the peace of the world Tn a statement from his vaca tion headquarters at Newport I Eisenhower declared the is and to go to the Security council for a full discussion of what he called the shooting by the Russians of an RB 47 plane July 1 The declared in a note to Moscow Tuesday that the plane was shot down over international waters at least 30 miles from the Soviet coast on the Barents sea The Soviet Union had charged the previous day that the jet re connaissance bomber had vi olated Soviet air space A
