has never scored over Spassky By ISAAC KASHDAN Inftmattonol Grandmaster The forfeit by Bobby isch er in the second game of the world championship chess series with Boris Spassky probably signals the end of the long awaited encounter The dispute regarding the television cameras was the latest in a long series of con troversies that has plagued the match organizers for months With a two point deficit it is not likely that ischer will take his seat for the third game set to begin at 5 pm Reykjavik time Sunday If he does not appear he will most likely be disqualified by the International Chess eder ation rather than go through a forfeit procedure in each game If he does continue ischer will need 12 points of the re maining 22 games Spassky would retain the championship with 10 additional points The match almost came to a halt before it started on July 2 the originally scheduled date for the first game isch er failed to show up and this writer said at the time that he should have been' disqualified immediately The delay granted at the time was contrary to the terms of the match agree ment Dr Max Euwe of Hol land president of the Inter national Chess ederation ad mitted this at the time The forfeit seemed equally wrong based on the language of the agreement No doubt there is considerable and de served feeling against isch er and the officials may have determined to
