However, the girl finds clever ways to handle the treatment director of the Jewish Foundation of Central Alabama, which sponsors the event, said shortening the festival was a matter of convenience more than anything.

"If you make it three nights, it's a long weekend, but if you go into Tuesday, you're really dipping into someone's weekend," Rousso said. "We thought it would attract more people by making it more convenient." Rousso said that this doesn't mean the festival is in trouble and said the films are as strong, or stronger, this year than in previous years. She said the jewel of this year's festival will probably be "Live and Become." The movie, a story about survival, identity and the healing power of love, will be shown Sunday. "Live and Become" is set in 1985 and tells the story of Ethiopian Jewish refugees. At the start of the film, a Jewish boy marked for a rescue-flight to Israel dies and a Christian boy takes his place.

For the boy to survive he must adapt to a culture that is not his own. "Live and Become" is the hottest film among those showing at the network of Jewish Film Festivals across the country, Rousso said. Of all the films showing at the numerous festivals, it is the only movie being shown at all of them. The festival will open Saturday with "The First Time I Was Twenty." This coming of age film follows an oddball teenage Jewish girl and her attempts to fit in while growing up with her family in a 1960s Paris suburb. The magazine, citing a source on the set, reported on its Web site Wednesday that when T.R. The argument quickly intensified, and an alleged homophobic slur was used, but Knight wasn't present. The clash occurred Oct. 9. On Oct. 19, Knight revealed that he is gay.

HONGKONG Mariah Carey's weekend concert was canceled Thursday because of poor ticket sales and what promoters said were the pop star's "unreasonable demands." Carey was to perform Saturday at an outdoor space near Hong Kong's Central financial district. Promoter Concerts Asia said it had only sold 4,000 tickets, despite a "substantial" advertising campaign. "We have decided to cancel the event effective immediately due to both the poor response of public ticket sales and also due to specific last-minute demands, which we find wholly unreasonable and not with the best interests of Hong Kong, us and also the fans," said a statement posted Thursday on the promoter's Web site. I have the book in my hand, but no authors' names accompany the text. The Church Hymnal Corporation in New York published the third edition of "Lesser Day as it is sometimes known. It is a celebration of the gift of eternal life and serves as a link between those still on their earthly pilgrimage and those who have passed on. The occasion may date back to the third century, prior to 270 A.D. Gregory Thaumaturgus wrote about a festival of all martyrs.

References were made to a similar holiday a hundred years later by Ephrem the Deacon. Bishop John Chrysostom of Constantinople told of a celebration for all saints on the first Sunday after Pentecost in the fifth century. In 610 a pagan temple for all the gods, was dedicated as the Church of St. Mary and all martyrs. Who are these people whom we commemorate on All Saints Day? The Apostle John, writing from the Isle of Patmos, told us.

He was having a vision of the future in which an angelic elder gave him a guided tour of heaven. "After this I looked and there before me was a great multitude that no one could count, from every nation, tribe, people and language standing before the throne and in front of the Lamb. They were wearing white palm branches in their hands." (Revelation 7:9 New International Version) The elder then asked if John knew who these people were. He bounced the question back and received a definitive answer: "These are they who have come out of the great tribulation; they have washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb. Therefore, they are before the throne of God and serve him day and night in his temple; and he who sits on the throne will spread his tent over them.

Never again will they hunger, never again will they thirst. The them, nor any scorching heat. For the Lamb at the center of the throne will be their shepherd; he will lead them to springs of living water. And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes." (Rev.
