fnext security trader chief HONOLULU ADVERTISER Tuesday, Oct. 20, 1970 C-7 new trend in pension plans worst over for mart i 1 says mutual funds x- 11 sylvia porter A new era for pensions is opening in our land an era in which you'll be entitled to retire from your company with a substantial pension at a far earlier age than you ever thought possible and your financial stake in your pension will be protected to a degree not even dreamed of a few years ago. The precedent-shattering fight over pensions in the auto industry in which General Motors is offering a minimum $500-a-month pension' to any worker 58 years of age or older after 30 years of service and the autowork- Close of business INVESTING COMPANIES Equt Pro Essex Everst in Fairtd Farm Bu Fed Grth Fid Cap Fid Fund Fid Trnd Financial Dynm Indust Incom Vent FstF Va Fstln Dis Fst InGth Fst InStk Fst Multi Fst Nat Fst Siera Flet Cap Flet Fnd Fla Gth Fnd Gth Found rs Foursq Bid Ask 1.81 1.98 Admiralty Funds: Grwth S.76 6.31 Incom 3.60 3.95 Insur 7.09 7.77 4.68 5.11 Fd 8.43 9.21 Affiliatd 6.57 7.11 6.65 6.65 Am .60 .66 9.5510.27 Fd 9.71 10.61 5.32 5.81 Bira 3.02 3.27 Dvln 9.4510.33 Express: Capit 7.47 8.16 Incme 8.47 9.26 Invest 8.05 8.80 Sped 7.63 Stock 7.87 8.60 Eqty 4.34 4.74 Aberdn Advisrs Aetna Afutre All Allstate 5 Alpha Amcao Am Am Amer Am Am Grth 5.43 5.93 Am Inv 4.88 4.88 Am Mut 7.87 8.60 AmN Gth 2.64 2.89 in November condominiums Corporate profit sharing, plans, another form of retirement savings plan, also-have grown tremendously." To suggest how significant such plans have become for millions, Chicago's Continental Bank has calculated that: if an employer of a 30-year-f old, man con-tributed an average of 10 per-: cent of these earnings to a 5 profit-sharing account each year, if the worker matched this amount, and if the investment grew at 7 per cent compounded annually, the would accumulate $228,000 by the time he retired at age 65. In addition, U.S. employ- ers last year contributed $27.5 billion in Federal, state and local social insurance funds including Social Security, Medicare, state unemployment insurance, railroad retirement insurance, etc.

And employer contributions for social insurance are now jumping 13 per cent a year. But as it stands today, pension plans are an "empty benefit" which will not pay off their promised benefits for millions because the worker will 'quit or change -jobs before he reaches retirement age. Also, as it stands today, literally millions of middle- aged employes have locked themselves into unsatisfacto- -ry jobs simply to avoid los-" ing their valuable pension credits. And more millions are re-1 tiring before age 65 many involuntarily, most at re- duced pensions and all dreadfully threatened by inflation. Dazzling though conservatives may view the new era for pensions, it is, if anything, opening late.

seminar By WILLIAM KREGEIt Advertiser Financial Editor The man who will serve as president of the National Security Traders Association next year said yesterday that, in his opinion, "the worst of it is over" insofar as the stock market's plunge is concerned. Morton N. Weiss a general partner of the New York securities firm of Tros-ter, Singer Co. added that there is no question in his mind that the Dow Jones industrial average will reach the 1,000 mark once again "and go beyond it." The market crunch hasn't affected the over-the-counter securities market, Weiss said, in contrast to those brokerage houses that recently have been merged or closed down. "There've only been a couple of closures among the over-the-counter firms," Weiss said.

The National Security Traders Association's 36th annual convention began here Sunday at the Hilton Hawaiian Village with approximately 400 brokers and dealers in over-the-counter securities attending from throughout the United States. The convention will end tomorrow evening. WEISS SAID he definitely looks for the market to score a spectacular rise in the 70s and predicted that the volume of trading on the New York Stock Exchange by 1975 should run between 30 million and 35 million shares a day. At that time, Weiss speculated, the Dow Jones industrial average "could be in the 1,200 to 1,300 range." A key facet of this year's convention is an explanation for brokers and dealers of the automated quotation system for over-the-counter stocks which will go into operation the first of the year. Originally scheduled to list some 3,000 securities, the computerized system eventually will handle as many as 20,000 different issues, providing daily closing quotations and volume figures.

WEISS, who automatically will be elected president of the association tomorrow, has served the national October 3.43 3.76 12.53 13.69 11.38 12.44 8.61 9.41 8.80 8.80 unavail 10.3811.34 13.9615.26 20.79 22.72 Prog: 3.70 4.05 3.41 3.74 5.20 5.70 3.90 4.27 9.59 10.48 6.97 7.64 7.60 8.33 7.84 8.59 7.84 7.96 6.55 7.16 35.69 39.13 5.71 4.99 5.07 5.54 4.02 4.39 7.41 8 .10 8.95 9.79 Grwth Pf Stk Incom Stock Nel Grth Neuw Cet Neuw Fd New Wld Newton Nich Strg Noreast Ocngph Omega 100 Fd 101 Fd 8.03 8.78 6.22 6.80 4.64 5.07 7.28 7.96 8.04 8.74 4.65 5.10 18.02 18.02 11.47 12.54 13.03 14.24 9.97 9.97 14.13 14.13 6.29 6.29 5.93 6.05 12.00 13.11 8.42 9.20 One WmS 13.02 13.02 O'Neil 11.18 11.18 Oppenh Opp AIM OTC See Pace Fnd Paul Reg Penn Sq Pa Mut Phila Pilgrim Pine St Pion Ent Pion Fnd Plan Inv 6.95 7.60 9.37 10.24 9.42 10.23 7.18 7.85 6.99 7.64 7.14 7.14 4.04 4.04 12.65 1 68.3 8.31 9.08 10.09 10.09 5.99 6.55 10.67 11.66 9.37 10.24 Group: 7.08 7.76 5.84 5.92 2.04 8.13 9.10 Price Funds: Grwth 21.25 21.25 Era 9.06 9.06 Hor 22.47 22.47 Pro Fund unavail Prof Portf 6.40 6.99 Provdnt 4.13 4.51 5.33 5.40 1.86 7.42 9.10 Grp 8.39 9.17 Prud Sys 9.21 10.06 6.57 7.18 10.87 11.88 6.31 6.90 7.87 8.62 7.05 7.62 9.31 9.31 6.10 6.16 Puritan 9.08 9.92 Putnam Eauit Funds: 6.75 7.38 12.58 13.5 8.80 9.62 7.15 7.81 6.33 6.92 7.32 8.00 5.95 6.50 9.16 10.01 13.32 13.75 Georg Grth Incom Invest Vista Voyag Revere Rinfret Rosenth Salem Fd Schustr 6.76 7.39 01 8.76 11.6512.74 6.68 7.30 17.07 17.07 13.13 14.35 22.44 22.44 5.70 6.23 4.78 5.22 13.46 14.73 Scudder Funds: Int Inv unavail Spcl 28.20 28.20 Bal 13.63 13.63 Com St 8.67 8.67 Security Funds: Equty 2.82 3.08 Invest 7.22 7.89 Ultra 5.80 6.34 3.95 4.31 6.55 7.16 7.25 7.92 10.40 10.40 8.33 8.33 6.63 6.63 9.57 10.49 1.98 2.16 13.60 14.17 3.49 3.81 6.58 7.21 3.77 4.12 3.89 4.25 8.16 8.92 6.0T 6.57 6.26 6.86 5.48 6.01 4.00 4.37 7.83 8.47 11.69 12.78 8.01 8.01 6.62 6.62 Selec Am 8.40 9.10 Sel SpecS 13.33 14.57 7.41 8.05 5entl Gth Sham Fd 9.04 9.04 Shear Ap 96.88105.88 Sh Dean 14.48 14.48 Side 8.62 9.45 Sigma Funds: Captl 7.56 8.26 Invest Trust Smith Swst Inv Swlnv Gt Sover Inv Spedra StFrm Gt State St Steadman Am Ind Fiduc 10.05 10.98 8.13 8.89 8.32 8.32 7.96 8.61 5.50 5.95 12.39 13.57 5.90 6.47 4.52 4.52 40.50 41.50 Funds: 3.34 3.66 5.68 6.22 10.8711.88 Group: 3.92 4.26 8.87 9.64 3.83 4.16 16.6418.08 8.72 9.37 6.32 6.87 4.08 4.46 17.98 18.54 6.63 6.63 6.94 7.54 18.76 18.76 Funds: 8.03 8.81 18.22 19.02 18.26 19.93 7.91 8.63 7.18 7.84 4.38 4.79 16.06 17.53 Stein Roe Fds: Bal Cap Op Stock 16.92 16.92 7.66 7.66 11.7711.77 Supervisd Grth Sumit Tech Syncr Gt TMR Ap Teachrs Techncl Temp Gt Towr MR Tran Cap Trav Eq Tudor Fd TwnC Gt TwnC Ine Unit Mut Unifd Un Capitl Inv: 6.10 6.68 8.82 9.67 6.50 7.08 7.69 8.40 10.27 11.22 8.42 8.77 3.69 4.03 23.73 52.93 4.49 4.91 6.70 7.28 8.58 9.38 11.56 12.63 2.78 3.05 3.85 4.22 8.37 9.15 8.50 9.29 8.26 9.03 8.99 9.82 6.50 3.82 3.08 6.48 7.78 7.10 4.18 3.38 7.10 8.52 8.57 7.84 13.65 14.92 5.26 5.75 4.76 6.32 8.84 3.63 5.20 6.90 United Funds: 9.66 3.97 Accm 6.27 6.87 Incom Scien Vang UFd Can 12.21 13.38 6.56 7.19 7.55 8.27 7.22 7.89 9.59 9.59 1.281 12.81 10.7311.73 8.13 8.89 4.41 4.82 Value Val Line Fd: Lin 5.69 i.2i Incom Spl Sit VnceS spl Vandrbt Vangd Var IndP Viking WaMSt In Wash Mu 4.46 4.73 6.87 5.88 3.74 4.89 5.18 7.51 6.43 4.09 9.73 10.66 10.61 11.60 13.4014.64 3.77 3.77 10.40 10.40 11.79 12.89 4.84 5.29 11.47 12.54 11.5712.64 7.75 8.38 4.70 5.08 10.20 10.36 4.68 5.09 4.25 4.62 5.41 5.88 9.69 10.59 10.93 11.95 Welllngtn Group: Explr 18.43 19.61 13.23 14.46 8.96 9.79 7.07 9.58 10.47 11.98 13.09 10.76 11.76 8.79 9.61 5.39 5.89 11.37 12.43 4.23 4.62 3.66 4.00 6.06 6.62 2.38 2.38 West Morg Techv Trust Wellsl Welltn Windr West Ind Whitehll Wincp Fd Winfield Wise Fd Worth 9.23 10.03 13.4213.42 unavail 9.11 9.30 8.98 8.98 6.73 7.3 Ser: 9.74 10.64 4.69 5.13 3.72 4.07 ON BUSINESS Under this, your benefits will climb automatically as living costs climb. ANOTHER TREND is toward permitting your pension benefits to be passed along, at your death, to your spouse. And still a fourth fundamental trend is toward "non contributory" pensions fully paid by your employer. On top of all this, pressure is mounting for greater protection of your stake in your pension. For instance, Sen.

Harri-man of the Senate labor man of the Senate Labor subcommittee on labor, introduced on Sept. 9 a potentially far-ranging bill which would: Require that private pension plans provide workers with at least some benefits after 10 years of service a major step toward making i "portable" from job to job; Develop a system to insure benefit credits in the event a pension plan was terminated before it had accumulated adequate funds to pay off beneficiaries; Set up a Federal Pension Benefit Insurance within the Labor Department, to pay off workers if a plan was prematurely closed similar to the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. which protects your deposits against bank failure. Sen. Williams' goal is passage of this legislation before next Labor Day.

Today there are 33,000 private pension plans covering more than 30 million U.S. workers. Covered retirees are now receiving $5 billion to $6 billion a year in private pension benefits. CAR TELEPHONES Attacki Phones Paging Systems -LOW MONTHLY COST- Executive Communications Corp. PH.
