"He has completely recovered from his operation and had a fine spring practice. We're counting on him" Just to make sure you get all the news that's fit to print, the Advertiser carries the names of golfers making a hole-in-one, bowlers who roll a 300 game, the antics of chess master Bobby Fischer, plus all the major sports events, local and worldwide. So how about a mention of cribbage? Okay, how about it? Well, to start with Mrs. Ellen Br'ito, who works at the Naval Ammunition Depot at Lualualei, had a 29-hand in cribbage the other day during a lunch time contest. She had three fives and a jack in her hand and turned up the other five and was so excited she upset her tea, or something.

For those who don't understand cribbage, a 29-hand is as rare as a hole-in-one in golf. So there! a sports coincidence Good news for Ed Kawawaki, track coach at Leeward Community College in Kaneohe. He's been selected by the national AAU as a participant in the AAU's Track Coaching Technique Cliriie July 24-28 at Sacramento State in California. Figures released by the league office show Hawaii with 171,141 (down 33,000 from last year), for games through June 30. In second place: Salt Lake City with 89,176. Overall, the league showed an attendance gain from 611,063 to 662,545 for the same period. does Hawaii need the PCL? The whole thing makes you start to wonder if the Islanders belong in this league. There are eight teams but Hawaii furnishes nearly 25 per cent of the attendance The Chicago White Sox have hit the sk'ids since Bill Melton, former Islander third baseman, was injured.

The home run slugger was the big threat in the attack that kept manager Chuck Tanner's troops in contention Coach Red Rocha of the Rainbows is keeping his lips buttoned, but you can see the excitement dancing in his eyes as he waits the start of cage practice in the fall. But if the Rainbows are good, just think about UCLA. All-American Bill Walton of the Bruins will be back. He didn't bother to try out for the Olympic team. But his understudy, Swen Nater (6-11) did and made it.

How's that for depth? The Reds picked up three runs in the second on Dar-rel Chaney's RBI single and Pete Rose's single which sent home two runners. Johnny Bench earlier in the first inning had driven in the opening run with a single. BOBBY Bonds hit his 13th homer, a triple and two singles for a perfect night as San Francisco routed Philadelphia, 8-1. Bonds, who also had a walk, scored three runs and had two RBIs. Briggs accounted for six of the seven Milwaukee runs, hitting a grand slam homer in the third and a two-run homer in the eighth. Nolan Ryan pitched the distance for the Angels in absorbing the loss, lowering his record to 11-6. 1 and Texas Ranger Dave Nelson hit the dirt so fast that he beat his bat to got up and struck out in a Eangers-Indians game at Arlington, Tex.

Baltimore swept a pair from the Chicago White Sox, 7-4 and 3-0, to move within one game of Detroit's pace-setting Tigers in the East. The Tigers lost a 1-0 heartbreaker to Kansas City. Meanwhile, Oakland scored a 9-3 and 1-0 sweep over the New York Yankees, increasing their Western Division lead to 5V2 games over the twice-thumped White Sox. DAVE Johnson and Bobby Grich supplied the big artillery in Baltimore's twin wins.

Johnson doubled and singled for three runs in the opener while Grich slammed a two-run homer in the nightcap, supporting the two-hit pitching of Doyle Alexander, who hurled his first big league shutout. Dave McNally reached the halfway mark seeking his fifth straight 20-victory season in the opener. The win improved his record to 10-7. Yankee starter Steve Kline pitched a perfect game for six innings in the opener but Oakland finally tagged him for four runs in the seventh inning on ho PLEASE CLIP lor mers by Reggie Jackson, Mike Epstein and Bert Campaneris. This wiped out a 3-0 lead the Yankees had taken in the first inning.

John Mayberry's fourth-inning single scored the only run of the game as three Kansas City pitchers blanked the Tigers. Winner Bruce Del Canton, Tom Burgmeier and Ken Wright collaborated on a four-hitter against loser Joe Coleman, now 11-8. GAYLORD Perry had to work overtime for his 15th victory as Cleveland took advantage of two Texas errors in the 14th inning for a 2-0 victory over the Rangers. Perry, lifted in the 14th inning for a pinch-hitter, allowed nine hits and struck out nine.

Singles by Buddy Bell and John Brohammer scored the two runs following the costly Texas bobbles. The game was a scoreless duel between Perry (15-7) and Mike Paul of the Rangers for 11 innings.
