The film distributors are in Japan, the station owner operates out of New York and the advertisers are in HawaiL And in the middle of the whole operation is pert, young Joanne Ninomiya, general manager of the Japanese television station. Miss Ninomiya's comment on running the station: "It takes time and patience." BUT PARTLY THROUGH her efforts, KIKU-TV's ratings have recently gone up, a fact Miss Ninomiya graciously attributed to "better programming from Japan" and "technical improvements which have produced a better picture." Miss Ninomiya also is keenly aware of KIKU's audience. The station's programs, 80 percent of which are from Japan, attract a middle-aged audience (those 40 years and older).

They get younger viewers from time to time. Sumo wrestling, samurai movies and Japanese home dramas which show family situations also appeal to Islanders, she said. "We have more or less of a captive audience. But no matter how hard we try, rating-wise we could never coating- that kills roaches, i 7 1 i train and produce shows at the same time." KIKU-TV received the FCC okay in 1967 and Miss Ninomiya joined" the group that was trying to build the foreign language station. "The growing pains were so bad in the beginning.

We had such a hard time," she recalled. IN 1969, after being with KIKU-TV for just two years, Miss Ninomiya was promoted to general manager. "It was just by chance," she said. She "would often take over as "acting manager" in the manager's absence. After several men didn't work out in the executive position Miss Ninomiya was made general manager.

"We try to be best in our class. I have confidence that KIKU can provide a needed function in this community." BEING REALISTIC, Miss Ninomiya realizes "that in another 20 years, less people, will be speaking Japanese." "But with Japan as a major power and the growing Japanese tourist trade, more high school and college students aire being go up to KGMB-TV," she said. -J- MISS NINOMIYA'S background prepared her for the general manager position. She majored in Japanese at the University of Hawaii and studied three years at Keio University in Tokyo. "When I was in college, I really didn't know what I was going to do.

With a Japanese major, you either go into teaching or tourism," she said. "It was really by chance that, when I returned from Japan, a radio announcer left KZOO-Radio and I got her position." As a disc jockey, she "worked the boards and played cartridges and -tapes." "Most of the announcers except for the newscasterson Japanese radio stations are females. You see, we're not paid too well," Miss Ninomiya said. SHE HEARD ABOUT plans that KTRG-TV would be changed to a Japanese station KIKU-TV. 11 awaiting Federal Communications Commission (FCC) approval for the changeover, Miss Ninomiya worked at KTRG-TV.

He is a -problem at school as he will not listen and pay attention. He seems to hear perfectly well, but I was just wondering.

Also his ears are full of draining yellow ear wax which I clean out every morning. Mrs. J.R. I can answer part but not all of your questions. The rupture of an eardrum usually results from infection and pressure building up in the middle ear, inside the eardrum.

If this is detected soon enough, the drum can have an incision made in it, drainage (and treatment) follow, and the incision can heal neatly. But when the drum is ruptured by the pressure, impairment of the hearing depends on where the rupture occurs. Sound is conducted by a series of tiny bones in the middle ear, one of them resting against the ear drum to pick up vibrations. If the rupture destroys this contact, loss of hearing can be anywhere from partial to 'mat ORIGINAL LUMURED BEADED HAND BAGS CLUTCHES BEAITY 7 lt I V. i W-'ifn2w 1 I OC coo 0 OCCO I lv V.
