WHEAT High Low Close Ordinance To Be Presented To City Council Tonight WOOD RIVER, May in the city of Wood Riven will bear $18,000 tax burden of mu niclpal origin this year than it has in the past fiscal period of the tax ordinance to be presented to the city council tonight is adopted. Despite the voting of a special band tax of from one fourth to two- thirds mill at the city election last month, reductions In other taxes have brought the total city levies down to $118,100, as compared to $134,100 levied last year. The levy ordinance had been prepared, today, by City Attorney Francis Manning, and was ready for presentation through the ordinance committee of the council tonight. The major reason for the reduction this year is the fact that all special assessments against public benefits were paid off last year, and no provision had to be made for them.

City Attorney Manning said that the appropriation ordinance, upon which the levy ordinance based its authority, had been published in time, after Its passage two weeks ago, to make the levy measure acted upon tonight legal. The sum appropriated by the pre vious ordinance for expenditure by city during the year is $131,850. Of the expected Income indicated the appropriation, the difference wtween the amount coming from taxes and the budgetted will come principally from fines and liquor licenses.
