Vital statistics 8 Monday, Sept. 20,1993 Kokomo (Ind.) Tribune Obituaries Cleo Gotshall SHERIDAN, Ind. Cleo Ross Gotshall, 82, Sheridan, died at 11:02 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 19, 1993, in Sheridan Healthcare Center.

He was born Aug. 16, 1911, in Logansport, to Samuel and Catherine (Ross) Gotshall. June 21, 1936, he married Helen Odell, who survives. He had worked at Wilbur Lane Grocery in Bringhurst, was assistant manager of Chews Grocery in Sheridan then owned Gotshall Corner Grocery here from 1952 to 1975. He then was meat cutter for Chews Grocery until 1986.

He was a 1929 graduate of Flora High School and a member of Sheridan First Christian Church. He served on Sheridan Town Council for 13 years. Also surviving are two daughters, Kathryn Gordon of Tipton and Iris Eller of Kokomo; four grandchildren; and two great- grandchildren. A brother and a sister preceded him in death. Services will be at 2 p.m.

Wednesday in Kercheval Funeral Home. Interment will be in Bell Mound Cemetery at Burlington. Friends may call from 4 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Leslie Grim Jr.

Leslie A. Grim 66, 2429 S. Road 200 East, died at 2:15 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 18, 1993, in Saint Joseph Hospital Health Center.

He was born Jan. 16, 1927, in Toledo, Ohio, to Leslie Grim A. and Cleo Marie (Larimore) Grim Sr. Aug. 3, 1946, in New Castle, he married V.

Oradean Walker, who survives. He moved to Kokomo in 1956 from New Castle. He retired in 1981 from the heat treat department of Chrysler Corp. after 34 years of service. He was a member of United Auto Workers Local 685.

Also surviving are a son, Terry S. Grim of Kokomo; two grandsons, Shawn Grim and Shane Grim, both of Kokomo; an aunt, Helen Grimm of Mount Summit; and two cousins, Arthur Grimm and Kay Jones, both of New Castle. His parents preceded him in death. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Ellers Mortuary Main Street Chapel.

The body will be taken to Macer-Hall Funeral Home at New Castle where services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday. Walter Turpin will officiate. Burial will be in Mount Summit Cemetery at New Castle. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m.

Tuesday at Macer-Hall. Ivan Olmstead Mary Thatcher Olmstead Ivan Ross Olmstead, 74, 1901 S. Courtland died at 9:40 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 19, 1993, in Saint Joseph Hospital Health Center, after an extended illness.

He was born April 23,1919, in Princeton, to William G. and Ethel M. (Alvis) Olmstead. June 14, 1938, in Kokomo, he married Lois V. Mowry, who survives.

He retired in February 1982 from Cabot Corp. with more than 40 years of service. He served in the Navy on the USS San Juan from 1944-1946 during World War II. He was a long-standing member of Courtland Avenue Friends Church where he had served as trustee and on several other committees. He was a founding member and trustee of the Steelworkers Organization of Active Retirees.

He was a member of United Steel Workers Local 2958 and a founding member and trustee of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8035. He was a very dear and loving husband, father and grandfather and will be deeply missed by his family and many friends. Also surviving are two daughters and sons-in-law, Sue and Bill Ridgeway and Marilyn and Don Alfrey, all of Kokomo; a son and daughter-in-law, Keith and Diane Olmstead of Russiaville; eight grandchildren and spouses, Tammy Ridgeway of Monticello, Joe and Diane Ridgeway and Jama Olmstead, all of Kokomo, Todd and Kate Ridgeway of Indianapolis, Tim and Julie Ridgeway of Oakford and Katie White, Kristie White and Alexandria Olmstead, all of Russiaville; eight great-grandchildren, Nathan, Nicole, Natalie and Neal Ridgeway, all of Kokomo, John Curry and Joe McHugh, both of Indianapolis, Renee Nulf of Monticello and Malorie Ridgeway of Oakford; and two sisters, Mrs. Elmer (Faye) Marchino of Indianapolis and Mrs. Lawrence (Thelma) Fichter of Princeton.

Two brothers and a sister preceded him in death. Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday in Courtland Avenue Friends Church. Rod Dennis will officiate. Burial will be in Sunset Memory Gardens Cemetery.

Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Ellers Mortuary Main Street Chapel and one hour before services Wednesday at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to the church or the oncology department of Saint Joseph Hospital. Thatcher Mary V. Thatcher, 76, 2600 W.

Jefferson St. Apartment 2204, died at 5:56 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 18, 1993, in Howard Community Hospital. She was born May 24, 1917, in Utica, Ohio, to Jacob Roy and Hazel Fern (Bullock) Maines.

March 6,1935, in Muncie, she married Paul James Thatcher, who died Oct. 22,1984. A 1934 graduate of Kokomo High School, Thatcher is a former kindergarten teacher and bus driver and was president of the Parent-Teacher associations at Central and Sycamore schools. She also was a former district director and board member of the state PTA. She worked in Howard County Assessor's office, the dietary department at Saint Joseph Hospital Health Center, personnel office at Brada-Miller and was resident manager of Maple Crest Apartments.

Mrs. Thatcher was named senior citizen of the month in May 1986. In 1988 she was crowned Howard County senior queen and Area 5 queen and advanced to the state competition as first runner up. She was a member of First Friends Meeting of Kokomo, Golden Rule Leaders Sunday school class and chairman of the Peace and Social Concerns committee. Other memberships were Alpha Chapter, Materian Club, Howard County Historical Society, Kokomo Art Association, Howard County Genealogical Society, current president of Kokomo Womens Civic Council, past president and.

current treasurer of New Horizons Through Reading Club, Howard County Senior Citizens past treasurer of Chapter 01272, American Association of Retired Persons and past second vice president of it's local affiliate Chapter 464. In that role, she was the chapter's chairwoman of legislative affairs. She was a member of Homemakers Club, Kokomo Woman Department Club, Kokomo Womens Democrat Club, Indiana State Democrat Club, Harrison Club, and served as national vote coordinator for AARP. She volunteered for the heart drive, Mothers March on Polio, financial drives for Memorial Gymnasium and Howard Community Hospital. She served as den mother for a Boy Scout troop, co-leader of a Girl Scout troop and leader of a Senior Scout troop.

She served as a member of the Citizens Advisory Committee for the reorganization of schools in 1960. She had assisted in the distribution of government sur- plus to the needy and elderly, and volunteered for the local American Red Cross Blood program, Saint Joseph Hospital, Americana Healthcare Center and the Kokomo office of former Rep. Jim Jontz, D-Ind. Surviving are two sons and daughters-in-law, William and Donna Thatcher and Donald R. and Shirley Thatcher, all of Kokomo; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Mary Rose Wible of Boulder, Pauletta and Don May of Willow Creek, and Sally and James Dillon Jr.

of Kokomo; a sister, Mrs. Jack (Rosie) Currens of Sebring, and 13 grandchildren, Cindy Wible of Chicago, Amy Wible of Los Angeles, Jeffrey Wible of Boulder, William Philip Thatcher, Patricia Lynn Thatcher, Brian Scott Dillon, Kyle Anthony Dillon, Norman rnd Connie Jo Beamer, Mark Joseph Thatcher of Muncie, Michael Scott Thatcher of Zionsville, Kenneth Eugene May of Portland, and Victoria Lynn Coolbaugh of Carson City, six great-grandchildren; and three stepgreat-grandchildren. Preceding her in death were two brothers, Arvin Maines and Roy Maines a sister, Dena Vaughn Cohee; and a granddaughter. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, in First Friends Meeting.

Nick Block will officiate. Entombment will be in Sunset Memory Gardens Mausoleum. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Ellers Mortuary Webster Street Chapel and one hour before services Wednesday at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of donor's choice.

Brian Melton GOLDSMITH, Ind. Brian S. Melton, 16, Goldsmith, died at 3:45 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 18,1993, at the scene of an automobile accident on U.S.

31 in Hamilton County. He was born June 10, 1977, in Kokomo, a son of Junior and Joyce (Ward) Melton, who survive. He was a junior at Tipton High School, where he was a member of the cross country, track and basketball teams. He also played soccer. He worked at Wendy's restaurant in Westfield.

Also surviving are a sister, Elizabeth Melton of Goldsmith; maternal grandmother, Essie Ward of Kokomo; paternal grandmother, Belva Melton of Tipton; and several aunts, uncles and cousins. Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Young-Nichols Funeral Home in Tipton. The Rev. Rick Burgei will officiate.

Burial will be in Tetersburg Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 5 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Pearl Rayles Pearl W. Rayles, 90, 1601 Cranbrook Drive, died at 4:45 p.m.

Sunday, Sept. 19, 1993, in Saint Joseph Hospital Health Center. He was born Nov. 29, 1902, in Tipton County, to James and Lillie Mae (Henry) Rayles. Feb.

19,1927, in Kokomo, he married Osa B. Alexander, who died Sept. 8,1993. He retired from American Standard. Surviving are two daughters, Shirley Record of Young America and Mary Varnau of Kokomo; 10 grandchildren, Mike Varnau, Jim Varnau, Vic Varnau and Jeannie Lenon, all of Kokomo, Steve Varnau of Sunnyvale, Scot Varnau and Cathy Kurtz, both of Houston, Pat Bagwell of Greentown, and Jo Ann Blackburn and Rick Record, both of Young America; and 22 great-grandchildren.

Preceding him in death were two brothers, Emory and Ivan Rayl; and a great-granddaughter, Jennifer Bagwell. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in Sunset Memory Gardens Mausoleum Chapel. The Rev. Paul Martin will officiate.
