PAGE FOURTEEN ALTON EVENING TELEGRAPH WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 20, 1945 Paper Collection At Wood River WOOD RIVER, Feb. of Schools G. A. Smith has announced that the paper collection in the Wood River elementary schools on Feb. 18 and 19 brought a total of 23,890 pounds.

Proceeds from the sale of the paper will be divided among the students who brought It In and they will be paid in war savings stamps. Lutheran Ladies Aid WOOD RIVER. The Ladies Aid Society of St. Paul's Lutheran Church will have a covered dish dinner in the church bnsement at noon Thursday. After the dinner the wonjen will go to Bcthalto and visit the Zlon's Ladles Aid Society.

Brotherhood Meeting WOOD RtVER. At a meeting of the Presbyterian Monday night at the Presbyterian Church, Mrs. Fred Isnmingcr gave a review of the book "The Omar Lyon was In charge of the program. On Furlough WOOD Victor Mik- Ola, Army Air Corps, Is visiting his parents, Mr. and Mrs.

S. F. Mikola of Seventh street. At the end of his furlough he will return to his base at Savannah, Ga. Another son of the Capt.

Oliver ,1. Mikola, la stationed at Otaru, Japan, with the medical corps. He has been overseas more than two years. His wife and two children went to El Paso, Texas, expecting Capt. Mikola to join them, but he has received orders to remain at his post.

His family will arrive In St. Louis by plane on March 14, to visit Mr. and Mrs. Mikola and then will move to.St. Louis.

A family dinner was served Sunday and addtlonal guests were Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Jones, uncle and aunt of the soldier.

Junior Red Cross WOOD RIVER. The Wood River Chapter of the Junior Red Cross has'been collecting funds to buy supplies for friendship boxes they are preparing to send to children In foreign countries. The children In the five schools of District 104 have supplied enough'jor- tlcles to pack 30 boxes. These boxes are filled with crayons, pencils, pads, a pair of hose and a small gift, such as a game or a doll. They are marked to be given to boys or girls.

This project has been undertaken annually for several years. Letters from various parts of the world have been received by the Junior Red Cross chairman, Miss E. Gulp, the result Of names and addresses ol the preparing them bcirtg included. A.A.U.W. to Meet WOOD RIVER.

The American Association of University Women will meet at 7:30 p. m. Thursday at the community building. Edward H. Melnert of Springfield will speak on "Supervision of the Delinquents Upon Their Return to the Community." Husbands of members will be guests for the evening.

Presbyterian Tea WOOD RIVER. The Ladles Aid Society of the Presbyterian Church will celebrate its twenty- llfth anniversary with a George Washington Tea Friday from 2 to 4 p. m. at the church basement. Kum-Dubble Class WOOD RIVER.
