I've been playing records since I was nine years old, but I've never considered myself to be much of a DJ.

My first proper job behind the decks was in Antwerp, Belgium, in 1991. 1 managed to wing it, by going out and buying a load of records and just doing the best I could. And no, I'm still not a proper DJ. I just have a feel for music. What inspired you to start DJ-ing? All the hip hop Js and hearing The Electrifying Mojo spin in clubs and on the radio in Detroit.

His mix tapes remain very special to me because they were, and still are, so innovative. Mayday, better known now as Derrick May, is also a huge inspiration to me. How would you describe your DJ sound? I play emotional house and techno with experimental sounds and electronic beats. What are your favourite clubs? Pure (Edinburgh), Fuse (Brussels), The Box (Chicago), Ministry Of Sound (London), The Institute (Detroit). Who are your favourite DJs? Jeff Mills, Frankie Knuckles, Dimi-tri, Derrick May.

What was your most memorable moment in a chib? Playing live and DJ-ing at the Ministry Of Sound, London, last year. The energy was all there for me that night. It was truly amazing. What projects are you working on? I've just completed a remix for James Lavelle's Mo' Wax label, and two reworks of Dave Angel tracks. I have a new single, Science Fiction, out now on bianco negro with an album to follow next month.

I'm also appearing on the Ministry Of Sound's Open tour of the UK. Where do you see yourself going musically? I'm really keen to progress my sound into a completely new direction. I think I've reached the stage where a lot of people think they know exactly what to expect from me, and therefore it's important to keep things fresh. I'm not going to start making hip hop or jungle, but I really want to develop what I have already achieved.
