Curtis Warren, Mrs. D. M. Lyon and Mrs. Frank Barr from the junior club in Wood River attended the East St.

Louis convention Tuesday. Mrs. W. T. Bruckner, state president, of Hinsdale, was the main speaker at the session Tuesday, and routine business and reports were taken up during the day.

Carl Wolf Visiting Here WOOD Wolf of Venice, a former resident of Wood River, arrived here Tuesday to visit his father, Emil W. Wolf, of 807 East Ferguson avenue, and his brother, Elmer G. Wolf, and family. Wolf, who left here about two years ago, is in business at Venice. Mrs.

Byron Hostess WOOD Ralph Byron of Whitelaw avenue entertained eight guests, members of a contract bridge club, at her home Tuesday night. Mrs. Ben £Toppewof East Alton is a new of flie club. Mrs. Byron and Miss Margaret Thurman excelled at bridge and were given club prizes.

In two weeks Miss Helen Christoe will be hostess at a meeting of the club. Tuberculosis Tests WOOD Cole of the Tuberculosis Association was at the high school today where she gave preliminary instructions concerning tuberculosis skin tests which will be given to seniors of the high school April 24. Written permission from parents of the students is necessary before the tests will be given, it has been announced'by Principal R. A. Scheer.

The service is being rendered by the State Board of Health. Entertains Afternoon Club WOOD of an afternoon pinochle club, which meets every other Tuesday, were guests this week of Mrs. Marvin Doll at her home, 476 Hamilton boulevard. Two tables of cards were in play and refreshments were served during the afternoon by the hostess. Prizes were won by Mrs.

Margie Weeden of Alton, Mrs. Hugh Christy and Mrs. Emma Miller of Alton. In a fortnight the club will be guests of Mrs. Donald Napp at her home in Alton.

Bicycle Stolon WOOD RIVER report was made to the police Tuesday that a bicycle had been stolen from a garage at the home of Dr. S. H. Allen on Wood River avenue, near 'the high school. The bicycle was an Elgin, red and white with aluminum fenders.

It was also described as having two new crusader tires and a luggage carrier. The report stated that the owner is Sidney DeLong of 121 Shamrock street, East Alton, and if found it is requested that the high school be called. E. Isaminger of 744 Wood River avenue. Attend District Convention WOOD of the Wood River Woman's Club attended a Twenty-second District convention for Illinois Federation of Woman's Clubs, which was held at the Broadview Hotel in East St. Louis, Tuesday. Mrs.

W. T. Bruckner, state president, of Hinsdale, was the principal speaker, and music was furnished by the high school chorus and solo num bers by students of East S. Louis High School, under the direction of Miss Rosemary Greene. Those who went from here were Mrs.

Omar Lyon, retiring presi dent of the club; Mrs. B. M. Harrod, who was elected president of the district at the meeting; Mrs. G.

O. DeAtley, newly-elected president of the Wood River club; Mrs. Otis Holmes, Mrs. Robert Parks, Mrs. Earl Anderson, Mrs.

M. F. Manning and Mrs. G. A.

Smith. Burglary at Wood River Store WOOD RIVER, April Sam Kusmanoff, proprietor of a grocery at 470 Leslie avenue, and his wife were away from home for about an hour Wednesday burglars entered the store and removed from between $40 and $45 from the cash register. The cash and a personal check were-, only things' missing so far as an 'early check by Kustaanoff vealed. Kusmanoff this morning said that he and his wife have living quarters at the rear of the store and it was through the apartment that entrance to the store was gained. Mr.

and Mrs. Kusmanoff left home about 7 p. m. and'returned about an hour later to find that the robbery had taken place. The apartment at the rear had been locked by Mr.

and Mrs. Kusmanoff when they left home and the door or window through which the intruder entered was again locked before leaving the building, Kusmanoff said. Wood River Adds Mail Routes to Care for Growth Two Substitute Carriers Given Full-Time Positions WOOD RIVER, April of mail delivery routes in Wood River made necessary cause of extensive home-building programs that have been in progress here for more than a year, due to many'new families moving into the city.

It also has made necessary the addition of a new carrier, Postmaster Zeno Stoecklin has an nounced. As result of the extension of the mail delivery routes several changes have been made in the postal route. Jack Walker, form erly a substitute carrier, now has Seen given a regular route and Clarence Neift, also a substitute carrier, has been given a full-time job. Because' of placing of the substitute carriers to full-time jobs, it will be necessary to hire a substitute carrier and persons wishing to take the examination for this position may call at the postoffice to secure blanks until Friday, Postmaster Stoecklin said. They will be notified individually as to the outcome of the examination, Stoecklin said.

Miss Fulton Is well-known here for her musical ability and has appeared at a number of civic clubs as guest artist. Mrs. Myer Club WOODRIVE Walter Myer of 410 Prospect street was hostess Tuesday night when she entertained 12 guests at a party at her home for members of a bridge club. Prizes were awarded to Miss Ruby Smith, Mrs.

Hugh Christy and Miss Melba Hoehn. After the games Mrs. Myer served refreshments. At their next meeting Miss Hoehn will entertain at the home of her sister, Mrs. Yoder in East Alton.

Bible Reading; Class WOOD RIVER Miss Marian McKean is sponsoring a class in Bible reading at United Brethren Church for those who wish to participate in a contest here, the winners will enter East Bay competition late in June. The finals in the East Bay competition will be held at Bloomington, The Men's Brotherhood of United Brethren Church will meet Friday night at the home of Earl Strain of Penning avenue. E. F. Counsil Is Board President At Wood River School Body Organizes; Arranges Transportation to Contest WOOD RIVER, April a reorganization meeting of East Alton-Wood River Community High School District 144 Board of Education Tuesday evening the vote for the annual election last Saturday was canvassed and officers wcro elected.

E. F. Counsil was elected president, to succeed Dr. F. M.

Leever. Dr. Leever Is retiring as president after a three-year term. L. L.

Ricks of East Alton was re-elected secretary. Harry Ringering of East Alton and Counsil were the members elected last Saturday. They were unopposed. The board now Is composed of the following members: E. F.

Counsil, president; L. L. Ricks, secretary and members, J. B. Wainwright, Harry Ringering and Dr.

Leever. Arrangements were made to furnish transportation for music contest winners who are entitled to compete in a national contest at Battle Creek, May 17. Students from District 144 who will make the trip are Warren Lutz, Donald Robinson and Donald Grisham, instrumental soloists. Piano accompanist for the three boys and Ralph Ritchey, band director of the high school, will accompany them. Attend Dinner Meeting; WOOD and Mrs.

G. O. DeAtley were guests Monday evening at a dinner meeting for officers and district board members of the Illinois Federation of Woman's Clubs which was held at the Community House In East St. Louis. A program given by the junior clubs of East St.

Louis followed dinner and Mrs. W. T. Buckner, slate president, who was present made a short talk. Mrs.

Harrod was Madison County president, for three years and was elected district president last Tuesday at a meeting in East St. Louis. Mrs. Lyon is retiring president of the Wood River club and Mrs. DeAtley will be president for the coming year.

The tunnel of the Trans-Andean Railway through the Andes, connecting Argentina and Chile, been opened for auto traffic.
