Locke St. Howard Circuit Court From the court record Indianapolis man sentenced A man accused of conspiring with two accomplices to shoplift at a local department store and giving false testimony to juvenile authorities was sentenced in Howard Circuit Court to two years in prison. Doran Verl Harris 38, was given the presumptive sentence after pleading guilty to conspiracy to commit theft as a Class felony, in return for dismissal of a charge of perjury, the same class offense.

The court accepted the agreement and ordered the sentence to be served concurrently with one possible in a Hamilton County case. Edwin was charged in June after he was identified by two suspects who were caught shoplifting at Target in Markland Mall. The suspects tried to pass themselves off as juveniles and while in court before discovery they were adults, implicated Harris. Harris also was accused of lying to juvenile authorities when he told them the two other suspects were underage. Charges dismissed Two Class A felony charges against a Kokomo man were ordered dismissed in Howard Circuit Court because the state was unable to locate a witness.

The charges were dropped against Rudolph "Rudy" Cavazos, 25, 1507 N. McCann St. He was indicted by a Howard County grand jury in August 1985 on charges of conspiracy to commit burglary and conspiracy to deal cocaine in excess of 3 grams. The charges stemmed from an alleged incident in June 1985 in which Cavazos and two other men were accused of breaking into a local residence to steal cocaine and resell it. Probation granted James M.

Schmitt, 31, 1214 S. Ohio was sentenced in Howard Circuit Court to three years on probation after pleading guilty to conspiracy to deal more than 3 grams of cocaine. A Howard County grand jury indicted Schmitt on the charge as a Class A felony in August 1985, plus a charge of conspiracy to deal more than 30 grams of marijuana. The first charge was reduced to a lesser included offense as a Class offense and the second charge dismissed in a plea bargain. After accepting the agreement, the court issued a presumptive five-year sentence as called for, but suspended it for probation.

A fine of $500 and court costs also were levied against Schmitt. The charges stemmed from an alleged incident in which Schmitt purchased cocaine and repacked it for resale. In a a a a a a a a a a separate incident, he bought cocaine from a dealer living at a mobile home park with the intent to resell. Charge reduced Wanda Ballew, 53, address not listed, was given a year probationary sentence in Howard Circuit Court after she pleaded guilty to a ed charge. She had been under indictment since February 1986 on a charge of conspiracy to deal a drug represented to be cocaine, a Class felony.

Through a plea bargain, she was permitted to plead guilty to a Class felony of dealing in a substance represented to be a controlled drug. The court accepted the arrangement and sentenced Ballew to a year of formal probation and Zone 1-2: Tonight, clear and very cool. Low in the middle to upper West wind 5 to 10 mph.
