Jittery Giants Shut Out SAN FRANCISCO (UPI) The lowly Chicago Cubs, capitalizing on five errors, handed the jittery San Francisco Giants a 6-0 shutout last night and dropped them down to third place in the close National League race.

Rookie southpaw Kenny Iloltzman and Bill Hands combined to hold the Giants power to four hits with Hands bailing the University of Illinois bonus Cub out of a bases-loaded jam during the eighth inning. nOLTZMAN picked up his ninth win against 13 losses while Juan Marichal sustained his sixth defeat against 21 wins. The Giants ace had put together four straight route-going triumphs. Five of Chicago's six runs were unearned as the Giant fielding came apart during the final two frames. The Bruins scored a pair of unearned tallies in eighth with the aid of an error by third baseman Jim Ray Hart.

Then Chicago sent across three more unearned runs in the ninth at the expense of Lindy Mc Daniel on a pair of errors by shortstop Jim Davenport and another by first baseman Willie McCovey. Chicago's lone earned tally came on a single by Adol-fo Phillips in the fifth frame. Holtzman had a two-hitter going when the eighth inning opened. The Giants then loaded the bases after two were out but manager Leo Durocher brought in Hands, a former Giant property, who proceeded to fan Hart. Osteen, who missed his last pitching turn because of a pulled groin muscle, was never in trouble and the three hits off him were scattered. His record is now 15-11.

The speedy Surf rider backs, especially Ricky Puhl, Don Camacho and Randy Ebright.

had raced all over the field almost at will. On four occasions, however, they were held for downs and twice they fumbled away scoring opportunities.
