"Hey, Duke, nice to be back home," Don Ho replied, embracing Kahanamoku. And it was a real Hawaiian-style welcome for Ho, the singing star at Puke Ka-hanamoku's in Waikikl.

who returned yesterday on a Pan K-LEI 1130 A.M. midnight. 5:30 Stu Allen witn News Haw'n Show en the hour 10:00 All Hawaiian and hall Music until hour Saturday American flight from a triumphant three-week Mainland engagement. HIS FAMILY was there: Mrs. Ho, and four of their six children.

"We're glad that he's home," Mrs. Ho said. "He's been so busy recently." "Hello, wahines," Ho said as he kissed his daughters Dana. 11, Dondi, 9 and Dori, 8. "Hi, Dwight," he.

said, lifting his 5-year-old son. "Smile for daddy." (Donald, 13, and Donalei, 12, were still lunching and didn't greet daddy at planeside. Ho's mother, Mrs. Honey Ho. was there, too.

"You look good." she said, hugging her son. AND NEARLY 200 well-wishers also were on hand. Some carried placards that read "Welcome Home, Don" and "You Show 'em, Don." Others waved banners that read "Welcome" and "Don Ho." In a matter of minutes, Ho was loaded with leis and he shook hands "with all my calabash cousins." It was almost like an old-style election rally. "Ahhh, Hawaii's the only place," Ho said. He looked like he just got out of bed, his hair tousled.

He wore a blue velour shirt, white trousers and white boots. "I think I'll go back some time, though," he said. "But now, I'll stay home and rest." HO AND HIS group, the Aliis, drew the largest crowd since 1927 when they opened a two-week stint March 21 at the Cocoanut Grove in the Ambassador Hotel in Los Angeles. They also had dates in Las Vegas and Seattle. "I got all kindt of good reports," Ho saL.

And he did. The Los Angeles Times' comment was typical: "This group Is cool, man!" HOW DID Ilo find the Mainland audiences? "It was kind of satisfying, really. They're not really Mainland because they've seen us before, when they were in Hawaii. They turned out to see us again. "I think working on the Mainland is a challenge, but I find it very satisfying." HO SAID HE also completed recording two albums for Reprise Records.

"One I did alone, the other with the Aliis. One will be out in June," he said. Did he record any Kui Lee tunes? "No, not this time," he said. "I did only one TV show-Art Linkletter's. There was no time for any more.

The Linkletter show should be here in a week or so." Ho was back on stage at Duke Kahanamoku's last night and will resume his disc jockey duties next week on KHVH Radio.
