What 100 francs, or $20, Only The Questions Are Phony NEW YORK (UPI) If you hear what seems to be interviews with President Johnson, or Lady Bird, or Hobby Kennedy, or Gen. Dwight D. Eisenhower and their answers are humorous, your ears are not fooling you. The voices are those of the President and other prominent persons and the inter- iews are well-known men at the microphone such as John St.

Leger, John Cameron Swayze and Westbrook i March of Time) Van Voor-liees. Any resemblance to reason "beyond these assumptions, however, is purely fictional. The fake interviews are contained on a recently released recording called 'Welcome to the LBJ Ranch" and are the work of riters Earle Doud and Alen Robin. Doud will be remembered as the brain behind "The First Family" records which made Vaughn Meader an overnight comedy star. The two writers amassed 36 miles of taped interviews given by the President, his wife, Sen.

Everett Dirksen, Richard M. Nixon, Gov. Nelson Rockefeller, Sen. Barry Goldwater and Sen. Robert Kennedy.

From these tapes Doud and Robin selected remarks that would be replies to fake questions by Swayze, Van Voorhees and St. Leger. The highly regarded Capitol Recording Co. made the record and it is quite amusing. 'We tried to stay away from the tapes of speeches because we wanted the tone which comes only in interviews," Doud said.

Doud and Robin spent more than a year putting the material together. "We were after complete answers," Doud said. "This was important because in no. case did we want to try and make up a sentence from isolated words. And we never did." During one of her many interviews, Mrs.

Lyndon B. Johnson actually said: "Welcome to the LBJ Ranch." Here is how those words are played back on the Doud-Robin record: "As a student of history, I wonder if you could remember the actual words the Indians spoke when Columbus landed on these shores?" Mrs. Johnson is asked. "Welcome to the LBJ Ranch!" is the answer. That is the way the entire record goes, answers to questions that were never really asked.

It also shows how the statements of prominent persons can be twisted out of their true context, but there is nothing malevolent or unkind in this experiment by two good-humored writers.
